Review of "Alice Upside Down" on DVD

Just when I knew all the hot tween stars that my daughter was following, I was recently introduced to another one: Alyson Stoner. Best-known for her role in the recent Camp Rock, she is a charming, witty gal who was perfectly cast in her newest flick -- Alice Upside Down.

Based on the Award-winning Alice McKinley books by Newbury Medalist Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Alice Upside Down follows the frustrating days of uncoordinated, tomboy Alice at her new school. Big Brother Lester (played by High School Musical's Lucas Grabeel) pesters her continuously, and only adds to her grief. Raised without her mother, Alice learns to lean on her sometimes embarrassing Dad (played by Beverly Hill's 90210 Luke Perry). Touching and poignant, this bitter-sweet tween flick was enjoyed by everyone in our family and didn't carry the tween drama too far above the head of my 9-year-old, star-struck daughter.

We will add this to our "favorite" movie shelf -- it's a funny family flick that all ages can enjoy. Did I mention that there's a cameo role by Laverne and Shirley's Penny Marshall? Too cute!
