Review of Scootababy

I have a confession to make... while I totally adore all the moms who practice "babywearing" and lug their little ones around in the most stylish of baby carriers, it just hasn't worked out for me in the past. I'm not sure if it is because all my babies have been tiny, and it has been easier to lug them under my arm like a football, or because I'm a little slow to figure out all the flaps, straps, and clips that many of today's carriers force you to continually adjust. (Plus I'm a little scared that my kid may come tumbling out if I forget to fasten something!)

One product has changed my view of babywearing forever. It is the Scootababy. Designed for tots over 6 months, I gave it a whole-hearted try with my tiny 1-yr-old. I was amazed to say the least.

This very simple carrier is like no other in terms of construction. It features a lightly padded, shaped seat for baby to sit in, and it doesn't take an army of helpers to get baby in and properly fastened. There is only ONE buckle (much like a seatbelt) and two adjustable straps. That's it. Nothing more. (And we love the fleece shoulder -- super comfy!)

It is comfy, simple-looking, and by far the most practical carrier I've ever tried! I carried my son all day long at a crowded Nebraska Cornhusker football game in crowds of 80,000 people with no worries. He was content to be near me, I was happy to have him safe, and my back and shoulders showed no signs of the usual wear-and-tear that some carriers have granted me in the past.Give this carrier a look at their website Scootababy.com. You won't be disappointed!

Review of Ziploc Twist N' Loc Containers

If you've suffered the experience of sending hubby to work with leftovers, only to have him LEAVE your good container somewhere in the breakroom (never to return), then you understand the importance of a good disposable container. Put those dessert whip tubs away, and check out my favorite new solution from Ziploc!

I was thrilled to try out the new Twist N' Loc containers after cooking up a batch of Oyster Stew. My hubby HATES the stuff, and needless to say, didn't want any chance of it coming open in the fridge or leaving any kind of odor behind. I poured the leftover soup into the new Twist N' Loc container, and with a few turns of the lid, I knew that it was properly sealed. (I even took a batch over to my parents' house with full faith in the lid staying closed.)

The containers are labeled with measurements to let you know how much is inside, and the container is built tough. With no concerns over a lid potentially popping off, I'm set to go!

Check out the full line of Ziploc storage containers at Ziploc.com!

(Thanks to BzzAgent for hooking us up with a few to try out!)

Salmonella Illnesses in Multiple States may be Linked to Recently Recalled Cereal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 12, 2008

Media Inquiries:
Michael Herndon, 301-827-6242
Consumer Inquiries:
888-INFO-FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced that at least 21 people in 13 states have been diagnosed with salmonellosis that was caused by the same strain of Salmonella that was found in the recently recalled unsweetened Puffed Rice and unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals produced by Malt-O-Meal.

The recalled products were distributed nationally under the Malt-O-Meal brand name as well as under private label brands including Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality. The cereals have "Best If Used By" dates from April 8, 2008 (coded as "APR0808") through March 18, 2009 (coded as "MAR1809").

Consumers should throw out any product in their homes from these recalled lots. Grocery stores and other retailers should promptly remove the cereals from their shelves.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of foodborne Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. In persons with poor health or weakened immune systems, Salmonella can invade the bloodstream and cause life-threatening infections.

Individuals who believe they may have experienced an illness consistent with the symptoms described above after consuming a puffed wheat or puffed rice cereal made by Malt-O-Meal should contact their health care practitioner immediately and report the illness to their state or local health authorities.

On April 5, 2008, Malt-O-Meal voluntarily recalled the cereals because the company’s routine testing found Salmonella in a product produced on March 24, 2008.

The FDA is working with Malt-O-Meal to determine the cause of the contamination and with the states and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify and prevent additional illnesses.

A full list of recalled products can be found at www.malt-o-meal.com/recallinfo.

Review of Knut: How One Little Polar Bear Captivated the World

Earth Day has just passed, but many minds and hearts are still on our Earth and the animals that inhabit it. What better way to celebrate the creation of life and the wonder of nature than with the world's most adorable (yes, I mean it) book about Knut, the famous Polar Bear?

This book's most promising feature is the wonderful (almost breathtaking) full-color photos of the tiny polar bear and its care takers. The story is wonderful, as well, but children of all ages (and those who prefer to skip the words) will find the pictures adequate for understanding the captvating tale of the first Polar Bear raised in the Berlin Zoo in over 30 years!

The tiny bear looks so funny with his giant paws (which later remind us of how strong and large a full-grown polar bear can be!) The story is told with sweetness and warmth, and reminds everyone of the importance of treating the animal community with love and respect.

Even if you aren't a hardcore animal lover, you will not be able to resist this book. The hardcover delight by the Hatkoff family and Dr. Uhlich is available at Amazon and other fine book suppliers.

Review of Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush

Maybe your remember our glowing review of the Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber awhile back. We loved the convenience of a tossable solution to some grimey bathroom problems, and once again, Scrubbing Bubbles has answered the call with another brilliant product for the toilet!

Having been raised using one of those toilet brushes that sits in the bathroom closet and gets tossed only when really, really nasty, I was intrigued by the idea of a disposable toilet cleaner. While not something I would use every single day, I was relieved to see that there was an option to attacking really awful toilet days with a fresh toilet brush that could be chucked after the dirty job was done.

The Fresh Brush had more than enough cleaner to get all up in (and around) my toilet's business, and the fact that we have 4 boys in the house was not apparent at all by the time I was done using the Fresh Brush. The best part? With the press of a button, that icky toilet brush was in my trash can without having to touch any of it.

I could see this as being a very useful tool for those special times when the regular toilet brush just isn't appealing at all. Like those weeks when everyone has the stomach flu? Or perhaps for those professional house cleaners that wouldn't be caught dead using their client's toilet brush or toting around one brush all day long?

Fresh brush is perhaps the "freshest" toilet solution I've tried yet. It comes in two varieties, including a "flushable" kind and the Max brush (which is killer on hard water stains)! More into can be found at the Scrubbing Bubbles website. Brush on!

Wanna win? Just tell us why you would be excited to try out the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush, and you will be entered to win one of 5 Fresh Brush prize packs! Leave your comments on this post. You have until this Saturday, April 26th at 12 p.m. CST to enter. Complete site rules can be found here.

Review of Desert Essence Thorougly Clean Face Wash

I need a good face wash that will get me through my tough days, and preferably one that is both tough on dirt, but easy on my sensitive skin. It is also desirable to have one that supports my concerns about using renewable energy during production.

Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash is a lifesaver. I've been using it for years now, and it is the only face wash used by me, my hubby, and my tweenage daughter. It's effective against breakouts, but doesn't contain harmful acids or medicines that may cause over-drying or sensitivities.

Made with 100% pure tea tree oil (a miracle ingredient by my standards), a little bit goes a long way! Buy in bulk and refill your dispenser to get even more value out of your purchase!

All of Desert Essence's product are available at health stores, many pharmacies, and at Amazon.com. Bye-Bye breakouts!

Review of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Movies with heart don't come along every day. But when they do.... they remind you why you love movies in the first place.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is not a contrived, simple, or purely entertaining piece of film. Suitable for all ages, and perfect for those children who are starting the ask the "big" questions in life, adults will find it engaging as well as educational.

Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) is over 200 years old, and is destined to leave this life and his magical toy shop behind. With Molly (Natalie Portman) chosen to carry on his legacy, things seem to be headed for the perfect ending. Things are not as sweet as they seem, however, as the toy shop begins to mourn Mr. Magorium's departure, and Molly is crushed to learn that his time will come sooner than she thought.

Heavy topics such as life, death, and all the magical stuff in-between will be portrayed with whimsical charm and a soft heart, making it the perfect opportunity for children and parents to discuss their views on death and the afterlife. A little sad, and a lot of sweet, viewers will enjoy this fresh film with wonderful character development and a tender performance by Jason Bateman. (And did you catch the adorable little Sock Monkey?)

Our favorite line from the movie? When Molly asks her mentor, "Are you dying?" Magorium points out, "Light bulbs die, my dear. I am departing." Wonderfully said, Mr. Magorium.

Review of Oopsi

Long car trips can be a pain (with little ones tossing their toys and bottles repeatedly on the floor.) Wouldn't it be great if you could have your infant or toddler respond to their own drop woes with one clever tug at their Oopsi?

Oopsi is a simple but fashionable car seat accessory that secures at the car seat buckle and safely attaches to any book, toy, sippy cup, or bottle! This "safety line" for favorite travel items keeps everything in reach of baby, and your attention where it belongs-- on the road!

Oopsi has the flexibility to wrap around most any toy, and works wonders securing the spine of favorite books! Velcro keeps it all in place, and they come in the most adorable of styles and colors!
We love the sage and brown polka dot.

Review of Wholly Wholesome Natural Baked Goods

I'm a foodie, through and through.... BUT I wince at the words "Wholesome" and "Natural" when it comes to my desserts. I admit that I often eat what tastes good in lieu of what is good for me. (I'll admit to even feeding my kids better than I feed myself.)

Wouldn't you agree that it would be nice to have a special dessert that not only tastes delicious, but is made from the finest natural ingredients? Now you can.

Wholly Wholesome has a new line of totally fresh, incredibly tasty, and wonderfully natural baked goods, and they are available at your local store! I was in heaven with their 100% Whole Grain Harvest Berry Crumble Cake. This fruity, nutty, sweet and satisfying dessert has the look of homemade, and was hugely popular with my friends and family. The best part was the 16 grams of Whole Grain per serving! It tasted like dessert, but had health stamped all over it! Blueberries, Cranberries and raspberries filled this kicky cake packed with antioxidants and flavor.

Maybe you're more of a cookie person. You'll love their line of organic mini cookies, freshly packed and ready to serve! Yummy, chewy bites of your favorite flavors (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and snickerdoodle) will be the life of your next party! Kids and adults both loved our taste test and especially found the oatmeal raisin to die for. Each package is guaranteed to be fresh and tasty right out of the container!

If you were just waiting for an easier way to eat better, I think I've found the best excuse ever! Wholly Wholesome's yummy fare is available now at health food stores all over the country. Check their store locator for the nearest retailer to your home!

Review of Crafty Baby's Nap Pack

Nap time is my favorite time of the day. Kids get to rest, and I get to get a few things done! Blankies and pillows make the nap a special time of comfort and relaxation for my kids, so I was really excited to give the Nap Pack from Crafty Baby a try!

Made from durable (but oh-so-luvable) fleece material, the Nap Pack comes in 7 adorable patterns. (Check out the Green Flowers!) The blanket unrolls to provide a comfortable sleeping surface with light cover, and it all comes attached to a toddler-sized pillow! The Nap Pack is light and portable, and even my 4-yr-old can roll it up and take it with him without assistance from me.

Since kids can get drooly in their sleep (and generally just plain goobery), the Nap Pack is small enough to toss in the wash with the rest of your child's clothes. No shrinkage here!

The Nap Pack is perfect for daycare, preschool, or just vegging out in the living room after a hard day's play! See all the Nap Pack designs and the rest of the Crafty Baby line at their website: www.craftybaby.com

Review of C-Panty

Any mommas out there who had their babies via c-section? As a mother who has had 4 of the uncomfortable surgeries, I am so excited about this next product! I know first-hand that scar management is usually an afterthought in the weeks after delivery.

The C-Panty is a brilliant pair of underwear that keeps everything in place, helps you to look your best, and is oh-so comfortable to wear! The beauty of this panty is that it is the ONLY product I have experienced that gives you that extra support and comfortable scar protection without looking like a medieval torture contraption!

The fashionable (yes, I said it) undies are comfy and stretchy -- made from 92% nylon and 8% spandex. The little panel that covers your scar is made from Silon-TEX® (a silicon material.) Together they provide a slimming, shaping panty that smooths out that weird little "shelf" that we all can get soon after delivery. It won't snag or stick to your scar. It won't further irritate an itchy healing. It's just plain awesome!

The C-Panty can be worn as soon as a c-section scar heals, and for as long as you desire it's flattening and flattering effects!

For more information on the full line of C-Panty, see their website! Go Momma!
