Review of Burn Jel Plus

Ouch! It happens all the time: You touch a burner, reach into the oven wrong, or make a mistake at the BBQ grill. While burns can be a bummer, you don't have to suffer too long with them.

We had the chance to try out WaterJel's Burn Jel Plus, a very "cool" alternative to traditional burn remedies. This fast-acting burn care gel is very effective, and can be used for burns, scalds, and sunburns (boy, do we need this!) The product states that it is used by "doctors, the U.S. military, and EMT's." But could it handle a houseful of clumsy kids and their parents?

Yes, it could!

Burn Jel Plus is easy to apply, just open the cap, and pour it on in a thick layer for best results. It really works because it contains Lidocaine HCL (a pain reliever that works on contact), Vitamin E (which sooths and heals skin), and Tea Tree Oil (which is known to prevent infections and speed healing.) It works amazingly, and it helps to keep your skin feeling fresh and cool while it heals, with less chance of infection.

This burn treatment isn't a substitute for seeing a professional, so if you have major burns that blister or appear raw, consult your doctor. For everyday minor burns, Burn Jel Plus is perfect for us! We will definitely keep a bottle on hand in our first-aid kit this summer!

Burn Jel Plus is available at pharmacies, health suppliers, and retail stores nationwide!

Update on Reliable Steamboy T1

It's not often that I follow up with another comment on a product. But sometimes the benefits of something we review are really that incredible!

I have had a chance to take my Reliable Steamboy T1 to several different homes in the last few weeks. This means the chance to try it out on various types of flooring. The verdict is in, and so far, we really do have a winner!

I give props to the steaming mop for use on:

-Tile (especially bathrooms). With 4 boys in the house, I don't know how I lived without it!

- Laminate. Use at your own discretion, as laminate flooring manufacturers may frown on using anything but the pre-approved and very expensive laminate cleaner. A light pass over the surface of laminate in good repair is a quick and effective way to clean dirt, grime, and smudges.

- Linoleum. Yes, some of us still have it. And the Steamboy gets the job done in record time.

- Real wood flooring. This is similar to using it on laminate. I don't use it daily, but just as a once-a-month touch-up. Keep your passes light over the wood surface to avoid water damage. I haven't had any problems, and my wood floors look fantastic!

For all the details on the Steamboy, see our full review here. Cleaning floors just got a whole lot easier.

Review of Neutregena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock

Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock is revolutionary. No, really.

My new favorite sunblock is easy to apply, and goes on more evenly than other sunblocks. I love that it doesn't feel heavy, greasy, or smell funky. And the best part? It's way cool! The "Fresh Cooling" feature gives hot and tired skin a burst of refreshing relief when the sunblock is sprayed on. The Patented Helioplex technology provides unbeatable Broad-Spectrum UV defense against sun damage.

We use this all the time at our house. Hubby loves it, and I love it. Forget rubbing on the gooey lotions that feel heavy. I'm hooked on this cooling spray that protects my skin without smothering it to death.

Check out the full line of Neutrogena sun care products at their website!

Beauty Starts Within...

While I love to look good on the outside, if I'm feeling yucky, everyone can tell. I love to kick up my lifestyle with some tasty products that actually help me to feel better. One of my favorites (that I've been using for years), is Emergen-C powdered drink with C vitamins. It's super yummy (try the tangerine or new pink lemonade), and has replaced sodas and other sugary drinks with a fizzy, healthy option. Just add tap water!

Emergen-C is available at Walmart, Target, and Amazon!

Review of RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

I'm only 29, but I feel the wrinkles coming on. When I frown, they stay just a bit longer than I'd like, and I can tell that my skin doesn't have the elasticity it used to!

Wouldn't I just love to find a product that goes on as easily as my normal daily moisturizer, but also provides the safe benefits of a wrinkle corrector... I think that I have!

After just 3 weeks of regularly using RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® Daily Moisturizer SPF 30, I can see the difference. My wrinkles have started to fill in, and my skin looks glowing! I haven't suffered from the drying effect that the sun usually gives my skin in the summer, and the best part: no clogged and yucky pores (pimples). The product is light, smells nice, and is highly effective at plumping up my wrinkly spots. It even has started to diminish my pores!

Review of Reach CleanPaste Floss

Products for your teeth aren't that all exciting, I know. But a cleaner, easier, and more comfortable way to floss is!

Reach has come out with a new kind of floss. It's not just minty (like some). It's definitely not waxy (like others). It's really just kind of pasty. Coated with a toothpaste-like material, this floss really slides in easily between teeth (even those that are really close together.) And it's called CleanPaste!

I loved how fresh my mouth felt after using the floss. The shred-resistant and totally yummy-tasting floss held up well and lasted longer than other floss. I'm totally hooked!

CleanPaste floss is available anywhere you would buy other stuff for your mouth! (Get your valuable coupon HERE.)

Review of Hershey's Bliss Chocolate

There's not too much to say about this one. Fast becoming one of my favorite indulgences, this affordable, grocery-available, rich and delicious chocolate comes in three scrumptious flavors:

Creamy Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate Melt-away.....

We love it so much, we've been giving it away by the bagful! One piece is enough, but you'll swear you need more.

Hershey's Bliss is available at most grocers and big box stores for under $5 a 9 oz bag. Yum!

Review of Bed Bugz Bed Bolster

Nothing is more dreadful than that hearing a "thud" from your little one's bedroom, and you instantly know that they have fallen out of bed -- again.

What can a parent do to keep little tykes where they can safely sleep? Metal bed rails are not comfortable or practical to take with you on the road. Plastic rails don't fit all sizes of beds and can be difficult to install. What about a comfy bed rail that is easy to install and you can take it anywhere?

Toddler Coddler has the brightest idea in bed safety -- the Bed Bugz! These super cozy bed bolsters are inflatable and can attach to any size bed in minutes! (Note: The original size fits toddler beds up to a double bed. New larger sizes will be coming out for queen and king sized beds.)The Bed Bugz can keep tiny ones from falling into the cracks between the bed and the wall (something that always scares my toddlers!) They are lightweight and can be used at relatives' houses, hotels, and RV's!

We liked that they worked so well, and my kids didn't wake up with "bar" marks on their faces from sleeping against them at night. The covers are washable, so drool stains and other dirty smudges can come out with ease.

Check out all the colors of Bed Bugz at their website. You can choose from pink, blue, and light green (all adorned with the adorable, snoring bed bug!) Available at Amazon and other family-friendly retailers!

Review of Mia's Reading Adventure: The Bugaboo Bugs Software

Computer games are a fun hobby at our house, but I really prefer those that teach basic learning skills over those for pure entertainment. We recently had an opportunity to test out Kutoka Interactive's Mia's Reading Adventure: The Bugaboo Bugs with both my 4 and 9-year old children, and the response was overwhelmingly positive!

First, let me give you a little background: Mia Reading is a DVD-ROM computer learning software game that provides hours of fun activities for reinforcing the foundational reading skills that every child needs to succeed. But this really is no ordinary educational software! The graphics are beyond amazing! My daughter and I were shocked to see that the game played much like a high-budget computer-animated movie, and she even told me that it was more realistic than games she had played on a Nintendo DS or a PS3. The game was quick-loading, and very easy to set up (it only required a short installation and allowed children to type their name for their play settings.)

In addition to really clever activities that challenged phonics, adverbs, sentence structure, and so much more, the game provided:
• Adventure game includes 12 educational activities
• Two game styles: Adventure Mode and Activities Mode

• Four age-appropriate difficulty levels
• Easy to consult evaluation report to follow the child’s progress
• Educational activities seamlessly integrated into the story
• Colorful environments and endearing characters in a rich
3D environment
• Feature-film quality animation
• Unique navigation system enabling real-time control of
the main character
• On DVD-ROM for an even better graphic quality

(This is a screen shot from our favorite activity in the game! Who doesn't love jellybeans?)

This game was just as fun for me to watch as it was for my kids to play! Children will enjoy helping Mia (the mouse) find ways to rid her home of stinky, nasty bug invaders while they build upon their reading skills. Adults will enjoy having a game played in the home that is worthwhile and pleasant to be around (as we all know how annoying some video games can be).

Mia Reading is perfect for summer learning, supplementing homeschool curriculum, or just as a way to pass time in a uniquely enriching way. See more about Kutoka Interactive and the Mia Reading program at their website! (This game is available at major electronics retailers and Amazon.com)

Whaddya Say Mom?

According to a recent survey conducted by Beech-Nut, for new and first-time moms, Mother's Day means more this year than last. 83 percent of moms who took the survey said that Mother's Day reminds them of how happy they are to be a mom!

Other fun facts include:

  • Good morning! The survey revealed that while 39 percent of new moms believe baby gets fussier in the evening, the morning is a different story. More than eight out of 10 new moms (81 percent) agree that baby is more pleasant in the morning.
  • Advancing nutrition. According to the National Network for Childcare, infants can start on solid food between ages 4 to 6 months. According to survey respondents, nearly twice as many moms are introducing solid foods earlier - four to five months old (38 percent) - rather than later - six to seven months (20 percent).
  • Food fun and function. When it comes to feeding baby, more than half of new moms (55 percent) think it is fun to see infants react to different flavors and textures. But new moms agree that baby food performs specific roles, such as introducing solid foods (80 percent) and nutrition (77 percent) into baby’s diet.
  • Warm hearts, worried minds. Not surprisingly, nearly all new moms (93 percent) warmed to baby’s first smile as the most popular, unexpected joy of being a new mom. However, new mommy-hood isn’t all smiles; some of the biggest concerns among new moms are worries about baby getting sick (62 percent) and giving baby proper nutrition (57 percent).
  • No expense spared. For 65 percent of new moms, nutritional value and variety of flavor are the most important factors when purchasing baby food, compared to 21 percent who consider cost.
Does the survey reflect your feelings of being a Mom and Mother's Day? Tell us about it! Simply respond with your opinion on any facts from the survey, and you'll be entered to win a super fun prize pack from Beech-Nut! Each of three (3) winners will receive:

(1) Beech-Nut tote
(2) jars of Good Morning (soluable fiber)
(2) jars Beech-Nut DHA plus+ (including the new Wild Alaskan Salmon)
(2) jars Good Evening (Whey Protein and prebiotics)
(2) Easy Pour dry cereals enhanced with DHA
(1) DHA plus+ yogurt blend

Review of Reliable Steamboy T1 Floor Mop

I love the convenience of having hard flooring throughout my whole house. It's easier for all the spills and thrills that having 3 young boys can bring about. What I DON'T like is the nasty residue and yucky mop water that is involved with traditional mopping. I have now officially converted to a new way to mop, and I'm sure you'll love it too!

The Reliable Steamboy T1 Floor Mop is brilliance for floors. The 5-minute assembly is simple enough for anyone, and the operating instructions are even more clear. Just fill the tank with tap water (hard-water areas may prefer distilled) and plug in the mop! Within seconds, you're mop is ready to use the power of all-natural, non-toxic steam to clean and shine those floors! Leave the mop on extra filthy surfaces (around the toilet or trash cans) a little bit longer for super-disinfecting power. The triangle-shaped mop head is great for along floorboards and getting into corners and hard-to-reach areas.

The adequately long cord allowed me to clean my living room, dining room, and the bathroom in less than the time it usually takes me to clean one room! There was no cleaner to use, no mop bucket, and no back-breaking scrubbing. It was -- perfect. When I was finished, I simply tossed the reusable micro-fiber mop head into the wash for next time!

This super-quiet solution is perfect for families with allergies, high-traffic homes, and those moms who don't want to spend an entire afternoon getting semi-acceptable results.

The Reliable Steamboy T1 is available at several fine online retailers, including Amazon, Achoo! Allergy, and HSN.

qubo® Develops Nutritional Guidelines For Advertising Targeted to Children

One of our favorite networks (qubo) has decided to step up to the plate when deciding if its advertisers are good for its viewers. The TV and online entertainment service for children announced that it has created nutritional guidelines that will dictate the ads that run on the qubo channel, as well as on the qubo programming slots that air on NBC, ION, and Telemundo.

The guidelines were created with the help of nationally renowned author and expert on childhood obesity, Goutham Rao, MD, clinical director of the Weight and Management and Wellness Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. These standards list acceptable daily limits for foods based on calories, fat grams, and saturated/trans fat, sugar, protein, fiber, and sodium.

We personally love all of qubo's children's programming (which includes VeggieTales, Jane and the Dragon, and 3-2-1 Penguins.) I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares about our children's nutrition and health!

See more about qubo at www.qubo.com!

Review of iRobot Roomba 400

If I could only have a robot for all my household chores, I'd be a much happier lady, and my house would be cleaner!

While we haven't entered the age of having a robot for every need, we've gotten pretty close with the invention of the iRobot Roomba 400 vacuum cleaner. I picked up the base model for the line of handy helpers just last week, and I was impressed beyond belief!

Just charge up your Roomba, set it in the middle of any floor, push the button, and go do something else for awhile. Roomba will take up to 45 minutes sweeping and vacuuming your hardwood or carpeted room without any assistance! It has features such as stair avoidance, automatic transitioning from hard floors to carpets, a large bag-less bin, and the ability to vacuums beneath furniture and other hard-to-reach places! When it's done, you just open the bagless container and dump it in the trash!

I couldn't believe the amount of dirt, dust, and pet hair that the Roomba picked up even AFTER I swept with my regular broom!

I will never go back to regular sweeping or vacuuming again! Learn more about the coolest machine on earth at iRobot's website.

Review of Jazzy Toes

What's cuter than baby socks and baby shoes? How about a baby sock that looks like a shoe!

I'm that neglectful mother you see running around, toting her tot sans shoes. I am that mom that thinks shoes can be a little cumbersome to put on, and I understand that keeping them on is a whole 'nother issue. I'm that parent that feels lucky if we survive a shopping trip without losing a loafer in the store or the parking lot outside the grocery. I'd rather just go with socks, but I hate the glaring looks for bringing baby out shoeless.

Now I have a fashionable alternative with Jazzy Toes! These super-adorable, appropriate-for-any-occasion socks are a cozy alternative to traditional footwear. They feature the "look" of a shoe (or boot or sandal) and have those neat grippy textures on the bottom to prevent slipping! The high-quality sock has just the right amount of elastic to keep 'em on, but they don't constrict a chubby baby's ankles.

I couldn't believe how cute my little pumpkin looked in his! We strolled around with the Jazzy Toes on and got so many compliments! I got approving looks like you wouldn't believe, and he was wearing socks the whole time.

In sizes 0-12 months, 12-24 months, they come in both girl and boy styles. They are packaged in a cute box great for giving and are perfect for sending through the mail! Check out the cutest thing to happen to socks at Jazzy Toe's website!
