Final Thoughts on Child Hunger Ends Here

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know how passionately we feel about the issue of child hunger and America.  We have shared our experiences with learning about, promoting, and helping combat the problem. We are now at the end of the fall campaign, and we would like to make one final plea for you to help at a local level.

Remember, even if you don't have cash to donate to the cause, you can bring in pantry items to your local food bank or clip UPC codes from participating ConAgra Brands to share with your school via SchoolsFightHunger.org. As of today, our homeschool athletic group has gathered dozens of UPC's which are each going to be matched with a cash donation from ConAgra to help the food bank in our area. We will continue to collect through the duration of the program, which ends December 31st.

If you don't do anything else today the fight against hunger, I urge you to simply learn more about it. By clicking on this interactive map, you can see who is struggling with hunger in your state and local communities.

You can also get more information about which food bank serves your community directly.  (This would be, of course, the food bank you would most likely want to support.)  You can talk to your local food bank about which items are on their "most wanted" list.  Our bank always has a need for peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned chicken and canned tuna, for example.

What will you have done in 2011 to ensure children in your community have a little more food on their plate this holiday season? Tell us in the comments, and thanks so much for your support!
