Review of Vita Coco Coconut Water1:53 PM
I don't fancy myself a coconut lover. (I pick it out of the Almond Joy candy all the time.) I do have an interest in drinking more natural beverages, and I understand the need for refreshing, vitamin-rich drinks -- especially during the summer.
Awhile back, I was introduced to the unique benefits of Vita Coco 100% Pure Coconut Water. To be honest, the plain flavor is NOT the most tasty thing I've ever had. (My kids, however, LOVE it.) I drink it more for the potassium and electrolytes, which it is chock full of. I saw a few other varieties at my local grocer that I may have to give a try (peach & mango, tangerine, tropical fruit); these seem more up my alley!
I do really appreciate having a few containers of this on hand, specifically for when we have illness in our house. While it is likely designed for hydration after sports and working hard, I have found it to be the only thing my kids will drink when they are sick with the flu or a stomach bug. I have put it in a sippy cup to keep fevers under control and keep kids sipping - even when they can't eat anything. (Note: Vita Coco recommends drinking no more than three 8.5 oz. glasses per day, especially for little kids.)
Since this product is shelf-stable, you don't have to take up precious fridge space to keep it on hand. We have at least two or three in the cupboard at all times. You never know when you'll need it!
