Book Review: Made to Crave for Young Women

My daughter is nearing 14 years old, and I worry that she will struggle with some of the same issues I did at her age.  I found myself getting into predicaments that I didn't have to, provided I had realized the confidence and value that Christ places on me.  "Made to Crave for Young Women: Satisfying Your Deepest Desires with God" was a wonderful first step to exploring those issues and making sure she doesn't struggle in the same way I did.

Here's a brief description of the book:
Every teenage girl wants to feel special, loved, and beautiful - and every mom wants her daughter to look for that affirmation in the right places instead of the wrong ones.  In Made to Crave for Young Women, based on the New York Times bestseller Made to Crave, bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst teams with social researcher Shaunti Feldhahn to show every teenage girl how to do just that - and give every mom the opportunity to discuss having true confidence in three vitally important areas.
Honestly, this book was something my daughter took complete responsibility for reading.  I made it a daily homeschool reading assignment.  I imagined that we would have more structured "discussion time", but as all of you moms with tweens and teens know, our talks came at more informal times in the day, like while we were driving in the car or over dinner.

I knew that she was growing through the process of reading the book, because she took amazing notes and posted them all over her bedroom wall.  She seemed motivated to continue on and seemed confident with the godly lessons she was making a personal part of her life.  I was able to scan ahead in the chapters to see that she would be addressing topics like how models aren't truly perfect and why boys are not a substitute for our Father's love.

I can't recommend this book enough for any mom who wants to share the gift of inner joy and acceptance with their daughter.  Even if you aren't quite there yourself, you can give her truth and light in a world where it is so easy to reach for darker, scarier replacements for what's healthy and honorable.
