Luster 1 Hour White

My teeth are something I've been self-conscious about over most of my life.  They are not as white as I'd like them to be, and I have a partial on my front top tooth with a slightly visible line from an injury I sustained early on in my childhood.  Also, I know that teeth naturally don't all look the same; for me, this means that I have never had perfectly white teeth -- even when I was small.

There is potential for my teeth to be brighter, however.  I go to my dentist every four months to keep them clean, and I use a whitening toothpaste to keep them at their best.  I had always wanted to try a whitening product like Luster 1-Hour White, as it is a bit more high tech than your typical toothpaste or tray system.

Here's how it works:

1.  Use the wash for 10 seconds on clean, flossed teeth.
2.  Paint the whitening gel on and leave for 20 seconds.
3.  Use the included light on your teeth for 2 minutes.
4.  Repeat up to 20 times for optimal brightness.

I tried the kit with everything included above for a mini-whitening session.  While the product does not cause an increase in sensitivity for your teeth, I do have sensitive gums that don't do well with traditional whitening products, so I wanted to take it easy with this product.  I did 5 sessions at a time, and just the first 5 sessions showed my teeth to be brighter (almost one shade whiter.)

Using the included shade chart, I could see that my teeth were between a 4 and a 5 before I began:

After the 5 treatments (which took about 20 minutes), my teeth had an overall cleaner appearance and were between a 3 and a 4 on the shade scale.

The lighting in my bathroom changed a bit between photos, so it may be hard to see the difference.  I know that my teeth were whiter, however, because the line from my partial on my top tooth was more pronounced after the treatment (the only downside to having whiter teeth.)

I'm excited to keep using the product for the full 20 treatments.  I think I'll do 5 a day until I'm done!

The only negative to the whitening system is that it is recommended you don't eat any staining foods for a day or two after whitening.  I really don't know how I can live one day without coffee, however -- maybe by drinking through a straw?

(Also, you will drool a bit during the sessions.  I tucked a cotton ball in my bottom lip to catch the drool!)

This rather affordable whitening system is available at Walmart stores and online for around $30.  If you have stained teeth, you'll see great results.  If your teeth are already pretty white, it will just brighten them.  Either way, it's a nice way to perk up your smile - especially between teeth.
