My Family Vacation Style

I love traveling with the family; we often take between 5-7 trips per year, but they tend to be short.  I like to have a few days of quality family time added to the front and back of my business trips to maximize time away from home and give my kids a taste of what mommy does for a living!

It turns out that I am not alone with my "dabbling" vacation style.  A recent study with Parents Magazine found that 56% of families consider themselves "dabblers" as well -- they take vacation days here and there throughout the year.

While this may seem like an inefficient way to vacation, there are some family-friendly options for those of us who can't afford to stay away for very long.  Embassy Suites, for example, is helping families focus on every single day they take with their Get MORE Vacation contest on Facebook!  (Families can upload their best "vacation face" photo for a chance to win a week-long family vacation that includes seven nights at any Embassy Suites Hotels, $10,000 for spending cash and round trip airfares for four!)

Since the anticipation of the trip can be part of the fun (I should know; my kids drive me CRAZY with all the planning and plotting they do prior to any trip), it's important to follow a few tips to ensure that your vacation meets and exceeds those very high expectations.

Dr. Susan Biali, author of Live a Life You Love:7 Steps to a Healthier, Happier, More Passionate You shares some tips for keeping things in perspective.  While most people need at least 3 days to feel the restful effects of a vacay, it is possible to take shorter, relaxing trips.  She recommends that families get to their destination the night before, so that families wake up already on their adventure!  Another way to get more for your time is to stay at a hotel like Embassy Suites.  With the free made-to-order breakfast, for example, you can skip the drive time (and expense) of a restaurant and have more moments with your family on your trip!

We've done so many short trips since I've become a blogger, that we pretty much know what works well for us.  Every family will be different, so do what's right for your family.  In the meantime, we'll be back soon with more personalized tips and a detailed overview of our experience staying at our local Embassy Suites!

For even more vacation tips and savings offers, be sure to follow Embassy Suites on Twitter, "Like" them on Facebook, and check out their website to find the family-friendly location nearest you.
