We had already made s'mores on the grill, with our fire pit, and in our oven broiler; what new way could we come up with to make them this time?

With temps reaching highs of 111° heat index, I could not pass up the opportunity to use the sweltering inside of my car to melt some do ooey gooey s'mores. Here's the easiest every way to make s'mores in your car!

Here's what you'll need:
  • One box HoneyMaid graham crackers
  • Hershey's milk chocolate bars
  • Kraft jet puffed marshmallows
  • One sheet of tinfoil
  • A baking sheet
  • One very hot vehicle
Here's how to do it:

1.  Assemble the ingredients on a foil lined baking sheet.
2.  Place the sheet in the back window of your car.  (Please explain to your children that playing in and around cars, especially during the summertime is very dangerous.  Making any kind of food or craft inside a hot car should only be done by adults.)
3.  Monitor the ingredients, and remove the tray once everything has melted.  Note: the tray will be very hot!  Use oven mitts.
4.  Enjoy!

With this being the hottest and driest year we've had in Nebraska in over 25 years, it was very fitting that we made s'mores this way.  Some campers have reported that there have been temporary bans placed on starting any outdoor fires at campgrounds, because of the drought.  This would be one way to get around not having any flames for your s'more making activity.

What's your favorite way to make s'mores?  Did you do anything fun for national s'mores day?

  1. Someone once told me she makes s'mores while camping in this way:

Take two good-quality chocolate chip cookies
Put marshmallows and chocolate in between them
Wrap in foil and place on coals
    When done, DEVOUR.
