Enter to Win $50,000 to Fight Hunger in Your Community!

Walmart is partnering with consumers like you to help feed kids in these tough times, and you can make a difference without giving anything more than you normally would!  The first thing you can do is grocery shop:  Brands that help support food drives and programs in local communities include: ConAgra, Kraft, Unliver, Kellogg's, and General Mills.  By visiting the Walmart Fighting Hunger Together page, you can click on each brand logo to see what specific steps they are taking!  Your purchase (either in-store or online) will ensure these initiatives are funded.

While Walmart is working with brand partners to help spread the love around the U.S. via food banks and other anti-hunger programs, you can now WIN the opportunity to have kids in your community helped even more than before.

Wanna Win?  You can enter to win a “Golden Spark” for your community by visiting www.walmart.com/hunger or Walmart’s Live Better Facebook app from now until October 14th.  40 winners will be randomly selected to get $50,000 for their community's backpack program to feed food-insecure children on the weekend! Also, Walmart Associates can compete together for their store to win 10 additional “Golden Sparks” totaling $500,000 for their communities by logging the most hunger relief volunteer hours during the life of the campaign.  (Note that the $50,000 is honorary only, meaning you won't get the cash; it will come as a grant to the packpack initiative in your community -- with the approval of Walmart.)

Since I grew up in a food insecure household, it is so nice to know that child hunger is such a talked-about issue and the communities are seeing it as everyone's responsibility to get children fed.  Times don't always get better for some families; fortunately, by being part of a larger commitment -- like the one Walmart is leading -- we can do more with less money.  Walmart's resources can help our purchasing dollars feed kids on a scale much larger than I ever realized!

I'm thankful that my kids haven't known hunger.  I pray that it is never an issue.  Let's not take the simple things for granted, and do what we can to be informed about this issue.

If you are 18 and over and live in the U.S., don't forget to enter to win the Golden Spark -- the winning communities (and their kids) will be thankful!
