Let Walmart Help you Read Across America!

As I write this, two of my sons are sprawled out on the couch, reading books they picked out themselves from our large bookshelf in our hallway.  Two of those titles are Dr. Seuss books -- and why not?  The catchy words and imaginative pictures are the first books all of my kids read when they first start out. We have several copies of some of the books (perhaps 5 of just The Cat in the Hat)!  Each one likes to "hold" their own book while we read along.

If you haven't heard about Read Across America, you really should know what it is!  It is a nationally recognized day in schools to promote literacy, and this year, we will be celebrating it on March 2nd! (Schools, however, may be having their activities on the 3rd.)  It's also the time to say "Happy Birthday" to Mr. (er, I mean "Dr.") Seuss, himself!

If you are new to owning copies of your own books, I can't say enough how much it can help kickstart a love of reading for your child.  You don't have to do it just when kids are young, either.  Any age can benefit from having a small library with quality titles at hand.

To make it easy for parents to do this, Walmart has marked down their Dr. Seuss beginner books (regularly priced at $8.99) to just $5 and their cute board books (normally $4.99) to $3.50!  This means kids of all ages can enjoy favorites like The Foot Book, Hop on Pop, and Are You My Mother?  Discounts are also happening online, with FREE shipping on orders of $50 or more!

What is your favorite Dr. Seuss read?
