You Can't Because You're a Girl: Changing the Message to #GirlsCan

I'm a mom of 5 boys and one tough, very special girl.  My teenage daughter has been the motivation to many amazing changes in my life.  From applying to a temp-job that got me my first career, to quitting smoking and eating healthier so I could be there for her longer.  She has influenced me in so many ways, and she continues to inspire me with her "can-do" attitude and positive approach towards life.

And while things weren't as easy for me as they are for her, she hears the stories of girls who don't have the same opportunities she has, and it concerns her. Whether it's the account of a girl who can't get a quality education in the country she lives in, or the fact that many girls don't pursue career goals that are more competitive among men (like programming), she see these setbacks and wishes all young women could have the support and guidance to dream big and follow through.

COVERGIRL also wishes good things for girls.  Their #GirlsCan campaign promotes the empowerment of women, but not just with lip service.  The video below shows the message they want to get through to everyone:

Just how will COVERGIRL put their empowerment message to work? By supporting great charities like Dress for Success, they are making sure that more girls can turn their story of "can't" into a story of "can.". COVERGIRL and Walmart are each donating $50K to this great non-profit that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Dress for Success has helped more than 775,000 women work towards self-sufficiency!

You can show COVERGIRL that you care about the #GirlsCan cause by purchasing specially marked packs of COVERGIRL Flamed Out Mascara and Pro Mascara on the #GirlsCan display at your local Walmart. Like all COVERGIRL products, these have great coverage and you could even pick up a couple for stocking stuffers. (What girl doesn't love a new mascara in her stocking?)

Has anyone ever told you that you couldn’t do something just because you’re a girl? What will you tell them now?

As a participant in the Walmart Moms Program, I've received samples and compensation for my time and efforts in creating this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
