5 Easy Character Easter Basket Ideas for Under $20 each!

We have always had "modest" Easter baskets for our kids.  It's not that we didn't want them to have something fancy, it's just that -- with 6 kids -- it's a real budget breaker to go all out.  This year, however, I had a challenge: Find Easter baskets for 5 of my 6 kids, for under $20 each.  While assembled baskets could be found for between $10 and $20 dollars, they didn't have anything that really appealed to me.  My kids wanted superheroes, movie characters, and very good candy.

I took my $100 to Walmart with the hopes that I wouldn't have to spend it all.  Here's what we ended up with.

1. Marvel Superheroes. This was for my 16-year-old daughter. This basket was made up of:

  • Avengers lunchbox tin ($4.98)
  • Captain America Hideaway Pet (6.88)
  • Iron Man fillable Eggs ($1.98) with candy ($1.00)
  • Reeses Candy Carrot ($1.00)
Total Cost: $15.84 plus tax!

  • Minion Pinball game ($1.48)
  • Squishy Pet ($.98)
  • Bubble Wand (part of a 6 pack -- cost was $.80 each)
  • Minion Spinner Toy ($5.98)
  • Cotton Candy ($2.00)
Total Cost: $19.20 plus tax

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was for my 4-year-old son. This basket includes:

  • Ninja Turtles Bucket ($4.98)

5. Spider-Man. This was for my 10-year-old son. This includes:

  • Spider-man Bucket ($4.98)
  • Spider-man Fun Set ($2.98)
  • Spider-Man Disc Shooter ($3.98)
  • Spider-Man Pinball Game ($1.48)
  • Reese's Candy Carrot ($1.00)
  • Assorted Candy ($2.00)
Total Cost: $16.42 plus tax

We did it!  We created 5 baskets for under $20 each for a total of $81 plus tax!

The wall of character-themed Easter goodies at my local Walmart made this shopping trip sooo easy.  With the exception of the bubble wands (which we found in the toy aisle in a pack of 6 for a much better value than buying them individually), I purchased everything in the Easter section. I was also thrilled by the quality of the plastic buckets that we used.  They are so sturdy that I'm looking forward to using them as toy storage after Easter. (They can hold a lot of Legos!)

If your child isn't a fan of any of the above, you will also find Frozen, Hello Kitty, and Doc McStuffins products, too!  There really is no reason you can't put together an affordable character basket this year that your child will get very excited about!  Which character basket theme do you like best?
