Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are making a difference in the lives of children and their families every day. Every minute, 62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment; your donations ensure these hospitals can provide the best care for these children! I have personally experienced how important these hospitals are in the lives of sick children or those who need treatment.
Little Manny was born with a tumor in his eye socket. At first, it wasn’t noticeable. But, as he got older, the tumor grew, and people began to ask about it. I could even see that it was starting to affect his vision. He was looking more at the tumor when focusing than whatever he was looking at.
After much prayer and consultation with his eye doctor and plastic surgeon, it was decided to remove it before he got too much older. I was so nervous! Having my baby put to sleep so that they could remove the tumor so close to his eye was nerve-wracking! The staff at the Children’s Hospital was super supportive and understanding, however. I’ll never forget when they came down the hall to get me, and Manny had just woke up from the surgery. He was flailing and crying and didn’t know where he was at. I started crying, too. The nurse on duty had me sit and comfort him and gave me some encouraging words, as well. We left the hospital in no time, with no issues or complications. (And the tumor was benign – what a relief!)
While we have been blessed to not need a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for more than this one minor operation, there were kids there who knew the hospital well. They were there with their families for hours, days, and weeks at a time. They knew their way around and seemed to be accepting of their situation – no matter how difficult. I really began to understand the impact that the hospital had on the children’s lives, not just when being treated, but long after.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals continue to do great things in the lives of families every day, but they need our help to do it. (Hospitals in the U.S. provide more than $3.5 billion in charitable care every year.) They have teamed up with Walmart and Sam’s Club to give you the opportunity to share a little extra when you shop. Just choose to give a little at the register when you pay for your everyday groceries, medicines, toys, and more! This promotion is going on through October 16th!
