Paint a Spooky Smile with Snazaroo this Halloween: Vampire Tutorial

Thanks to Snazaroo, our favorite face paint three years in a row, for sponsoring this awesome tutorial on painting a smile this Halloween! I received compensation for my participation, but my review and opinions are my own.

My boys love face paints. For the past three years, we have used the Snazaroo face painting kits to make our Halloweens more crazy, but also just to let the boys dress up year-round. Because the Snazaroo paints are safe, non-toxic, and easy to apply, my 13-year-old uses it all the time to dress up as his favorite characters.

With Halloween right around the corner, you may be wondering how face paints can help bring creativity and fun back to dressing up (instead of the expense that many associate with costumes.) We are going to show you step-by-step how to paint a smile (or in this case a bloody grin) with nothing more than the Snazaroo paint kit and some patience.

Note: My 13-year-old did this paint tutorial on his 9-year-old brother. The younger brother doesn't usually have the patience to have his face painted, but was kind enough to sit for this. He commented that it wasn't that bad because the Snazaroo paints don't itch or irritate. In the end, I think he had a good time (even though I couldn't get a smile out of him!)

Step One: White face paint all over.

Step Two: Blood in the corners of the mouth.

Step Three: Big eyebrows! (This one got a little out of hand, as my son kept raising his brows, creating bigger and bigger paint areas.) Please note that, if you mess up, the paint layers nicely. We used went over the mistakes with more white paint. It has great coverage!

Step Four: Fangs

There you have it -- a very grumpy vampire!!

In all, this took less than 15 minutes. It washes off easily with a baby wipe or in the shower. This paint is recommended for kids over the age of 3, but the quality is so good, adults can use it for high-quality effects, as well. The paint kit comes with an instruction booklet, 8 colors of paint, a brush, a sponge, and an easy to use tray. It retails for $17.99 -- a great price when we can use it with all of our kids this year!
