My Pledge for Better Nutrition in 201711:57 AM
If you don't know me well, you may be surprised to learn that I am a bit of a junk food junkie. I rarely ate veggies before meeting my husband, and it was only through six pregnancies, a terrible bout of anemia, and the raising of my own kids that I finally got my act together.
Even with all my dietary changes, however, I know that it can be difficult (if not impossible) to eat all of the things my body needs. This is especially true as I get older, and I deal with the consequences of 6 c-sections and terrible inflammation. I have found that nutritional supplements can be one of the easiest ways to close the gap. But to be honest -- I am terrible about being consistent, and I often miss days of taking vitamins or supplements. I can go a day or more without remembering to take the things I need to keep running!
That's why I've teamed up with MegaFood to take a pledge, a MegaPledge. This is a pledge to keep at my goal of getting the nutrition I need. They have made it super easy to close the gap with their line of vitamins, capsules, and powders. Here are just a few of the ones that I sampled:
Multi for Women - This vitamin is one of the most comprehensive that I've seen on the market. Since I can be sensitive to taking some supplements, I am always leery of trying new things, but this was so pleasant! I love that it has all the iron and other important nutrients I need to avoid my anemia issues again. There are food ingredients, as well -- such as brown rice and broccoli . They also have a version for women over 40 (I'm not there yet), women over 55, and men in these age groups, as well.
I also had the chance to try something I am very excited about. Turmeric Strength for Whole Body is a tablet that supplies you with -- turmeric-- along with other great ingredients. I have been taking turmeric for inflammation for over 8 years, and I really notice when I don't have it. My husband insists on mixing up the spice into a hot tea, but I can't personally stand the flavor of turmeric. This capsule is a wonderful alternative. It's also more practical to take on the go. (Who wants to mix up a yellow tea concoction on a business trip?)
Finally, I was really impressed by the powdered supplements. These mix-ins are very easy to add to smoothies, juices, or even water. Each one has a focus, but they are not single-ingredient products. Even with the Daily C-Protect (which is, obviously, high in C), there are other good whole food ingredients to help compliment the main ingredient, offer more benefits, and give you extra help in filling those nutritional gaps. I've also been happy to give my husband an alternative to his turmeric powder with this more easily dissolvable Daily Turmeric. It's less messy and packed with nutrients!
Each of the powder products comes with a handy plastic scoop. You can see how much a scoop contains. I poured one out into a tablespoon for reference.
All of these products are vegan, gluten-free, ISO certified, Kosher, dairy and soy free, herbicide and pesticide free, vegetarian, and non-gmo. The ingredients are sourced by local farms whenever possible! You can feel good about taking the MegaPledge.
