Our Favorite Special Effects in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

11:33 PM

It's time for another installment of one of my favorite Disney movies franchises: Pirates of the Caribbean! This fifth movie (Dead Men Tell No Tales) features some amazing CGI effects, and since my son is really into animation and hopes to one day work in a studio, we have taken this newest movie as a learning opportunity.

Johnny Depp returns to his Academy Award®-nominated role as the outrageous, swashbuckling scoundrel Captain Jack Sparrow, and is joined by Oscar® winners Javier Bardem (Best Supporting Actor, “No Country for Old Men”) and Geoffrey Rush (Best Actor, “Shine”). Fans who bring home “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will experience the nonstop action in stunning 4K Ultra HD format, the ultimate home entertainment experience with next-generation high dynamic range (HDR) visuals and Dolby Atmos® immersive audio.

Digital in HD features include:
  • Dead Men Tell More Tales: The Making of a New Adventure – Get unique access into the making of this exciting new “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie with this collection of revealing and entertaining stories that you can view individually or as a “play all.” They include: A Return to the Sea, Telling Tales: A Sit-down with Brenton & Kaya, The Matador & The Bull: Secrets of Salazar & The Silent Mary, First Mate Confidential, Deconstructing the Ghost Sharks, and more!
  • Bloopers of the Caribbean
  • Jerry Bruckheimer Photo Diary
  • Deleted Scenes
    • Highwayman
    • Henry Turner Learns a Lesson from Captain Jack
    • A Whale in Poseidon’s Tomb
    • Alternate Coda: Murtogg & Mullroy “Flogging”
Here's an example of one of the bonuses. Just check out what goes on behind the scenes to make the crazy ghost sharks!

As homeschoolers, we can't just watch a movie. Nope, we have to use it to learn. This little clip was an example of the kinds of cool features you can see when the digital release comes out tomorrow, September 19th!

My son is also really into movie makeup and special effects. He was super impressed with this "cracked earth" tutorial, showing just one of the many makeup art inspirations featured in the film. I think this would make an awesome Halloween costume idea!

The Digital in HD and 4K Ultra HD editions of Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is available September 19th, which happens to be Talk Like a Pirate Day! See some fun printables and activities to do with the kids below: (AAAARGH!)
