Encouraging Flavor Exploration with Your Picky Eater

Thank you to Juicy Juice for sponsoring this opportunity to tell you about an amazing campaign. Opinions are my own.

This is Manny.

Up until a month ago, he ate most anything. Yes, he preferred green beans over carrots and would scootch the orange stuff to the side, but he wouldn't out and out complain about dinnertime. Now, this once-happy kid has decided he will only eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on one piece of bread, folded over (not cut.)

How did this happen? It's a pretty common event in a child's life. As he works on becoming more independent, he's also discovering that some foods aren't as tasty as others. Luckily, this isn't my first rodeo and I'm not giving up. Teaching my kid to love a variety of foods is one of my jobs as a parent. Thankfully, I have help!

Juicy Juice (our favorite brand of juice) has made it their mission to equip families looking for taste adventures with useful tips, tools, recipes, and more. Their Flavorful Fun initiative is the go-to spot for sharing info about their 100% juice products (that means no high fructose corn syrup, no cane sugar, and no artificial sweeteners). Juice is an easy way to get kids to choose good foods and learn about global flavor profiles!

We usually have no problem getting Manny to drink juice. Giving him a taste of fruit combinations such as Orange Tangerine and Passion Dragonfruit is super easy. He never protests when he can sip on his favorite box of juice!

Parents now have one more ally in their picky eating corner, as celebrity chef Jeff Mauro (host of Food Network's show The Kitchen) shares original recipes and a new three-part video series for parents to bring excitement and nutrition into their own kitchens.

There's something for kids, too! Since my son loves when I sit and play computer games with him, we were pretty impressed to learn about the new games and activities available on the Flavor Discovery Site. With activities like a fruit memory match game and fun facts to learn, it's not just a way to enjoy time together -- kids can learn about foods, too! And if there's one thing I've learned about picky eaters, it's that they are more likely to willingly try new things when those foods are familiar to them. Learning through play makes new foods seem less intimidating.
