Review of OFF! PowerPad Lamp
Friday, June 27, 2008

Things have been a bit buggy here at Lille Punkin'... so much, in fact, that we've really had to be smart about protecting our family from those nasty bites that spiders, mosquitoes, and flies can bring about. We already told you about our new love-affair with OFF! FamilyCare Smooth & Dry so I know this won't come as any surprise to you: We are suckers for the OFF! PowerPad Lamp!
Forget tiki torches and open candles (both of which can become a burn hazard to curious little fingers), and consider the unique design of the PowerPad Lamp. With these cool little "PowerPads" that you insert into the top of the lamp, and a tiny candle (housed inside the lamp for optimum safety), you can light 'er up and keep a 15' X 15' area free from pests for up to 4 hours!
Does it work? You bet. And with the strength of 15 times a regular citronella candle (without that annoying odor.) They even have a PowerPad Lantern that comes ready-to-hang with an included 4-foot pole. Refills of the candle and PowerPads are available most anywhere!
I liked the simplicity of this product. But mostly, we dug hanging out in those damp areas of the yard sans skeetos. I'm a fan.
Hook yourself up with a great deal by visiting the OFF! website and printing a Buy One Get One Free coupon, valid anywhere PowerPad Lamps are sold. Or just revisit our OFF! Smooth & Dry review to see how you can get both effective products in our giveaway.
Now, who says you can't get something good for free?

Review of OFF! FamilyCare Smooth & Dry Insect Repellent
Thursday, June 26, 2008

'Tis mosquito season at our hot and humid farm. Working in the garden, playing in the yard, or simply watching a bit of TV (yes, I get to once in awhile) brings about opportunities for the icky skeeters to harass my family and leave those nasty, itchy welts all over our bodies.
As if the irritation wasn't enough, reports of West Nile Virus have us more than concerned for the safety of our family. Is there any option for protection that isn't as oily or stinky as conventional bug sprays?
When we had the chance to add OFF! FamilyCare Smooth & Dry Insect Repellent to our list of products to review, I was psyched. From the makers of Skintastic, this was ONE product that wasn't going to wait its turn before I got around to trying it. I sprayed some on before my very late (11 p.m.) weeding routine in my overgrown garden, and headed out into the night. I could hear them buzzing around me -- but not one mosquito touched my skin!
How is this formula of OFF! better than others? In addition to the superb protection it offers, the smell is rather pleasant (just don't breathe it in, people.) But the best part is how it doesn't leave you feeling heavy, sticky, and like you just stepped out of a corn syrup fight. It really is dry. It really is light. It really does feel like a dusting of powder!
The fine mist comes out of the spray can with ease, so there's no goofs (like accidentally spraying into the eyes or mouth.) An effective way to ward off unwanted visitors, we give OFF! top shelf space in our outdoor arsenal!
For more info on the complete OFF! line, visit their website at OffProtects.com! (And for more great product info on OFF! products, check back with us for a review of the new OFF! Powerpad Lamp.)
Want to win some OFF! gear? Just visit the OFF! website from now until Monday, June 30th at 11 pm CST and comment here with the OFF! product you would like to try most! We will randomly pick 2 lucky winners to score some Smooth & Dry for their own family (as well as one of those cool Powerpad Lamps we mentioned). Giveaway subject to site rules.

Update on Reliable Steamboy T1
Wednesday, May 28, 2008

It's not often that I follow up with another comment on a product. But sometimes the benefits of something we review are really that incredible!
I have had a chance to take my Reliable Steamboy T1 to several different homes in the last few weeks. This means the chance to try it out on various types of flooring. The verdict is in, and so far, we really do have a winner!
I give props to the steaming mop for use on:
-Tile (especially bathrooms). With 4 boys in the house, I don't know how I lived without it!
- Laminate. Use at your own discretion, as laminate flooring manufacturers may frown on using anything but the pre-approved and very expensive laminate cleaner. A light pass over the surface of laminate in good repair is a quick and effective way to clean dirt, grime, and smudges.
- Linoleum. Yes, some of us still have it. And the Steamboy gets the job done in record time.
- Real wood flooring. This is similar to using it on laminate. I don't use it daily, but just as a once-a-month touch-up. Keep your passes light over the wood surface to avoid water damage. I haven't had any problems, and my wood floors look fantastic!
For all the details on the Steamboy, see our full review here. Cleaning floors just got a whole lot easier.

Review of Bed Bugz Bed Bolster
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Nothing is more dreadful than that hearing a "thud" from your little one's bedroom, and you instantly know that they have fallen out of bed -- again. What can a parent do to keep little tykes where they can safely sleep? Metal bed rails are not comfortable or practical to take with you on the road. Plastic rails don't fit all sizes of beds and can be difficult to install. What about a comfy bed rail that is easy to install and you can take it anywhere?
Toddler Coddler has the brightest idea in bed safety -- the Bed Bugz! These super cozy bed bolsters are inflatable and can attach to any size bed in minutes! (Note: The original size fits toddler beds up to a double bed. New larger sizes will be coming out for queen and king sized beds.)
The Bed Bugz can keep tiny ones from falling into the cracks between the bed and the wall (something that always scares my toddlers!) They are lightweight and can be used at relatives' houses, hotels, and RV's!We liked that they worked so well, and my kids didn't wake up with "bar" marks on their faces from sleeping against them at night. The covers are washable, so drool stains and other dirty smudges can come out with ease.
Check out all the colors of Bed Bugz at their website. You can choose from pink, blue, and light green (all adorned with the adorable, snoring bed bug!) Available at Amazon and other family-friendly retailers!

Review of Reliable Steamboy T1 Floor Mop
Friday, May 9, 2008

I love the convenience of having hard flooring throughout my whole house. It's easier for all the spills and thrills that having 3 young boys can bring about. What I DON'T like is the nasty residue and yucky mop water that is involved with traditional mopping. I have now officially converted to a new way to mop, and I'm sure you'll love it too!
The Reliable Steamboy T1 Floor Mop is brilliance for floors. The 5-minute assembly is simple enough for anyone, and the operating instructions are even more clear. Just fill the tank with tap water (hard-water areas may prefer distilled) and plug in the mop! Within seconds, you're mop is ready to use the power of all-natural, non-toxic steam to clean and shine those floors! Leave the mop on extra filthy surfaces (around the toilet or trash cans) a little bit longer for super-disinfecting power. The triangle-shaped mop head is great for along floorboards and getting into corners and hard-to-reach areas.
The adequately long cord allowed me to clean my living room, dining room, and the bathroom in less than the time it usually takes me to clean one room! There was no cleaner to use, no mop bucket, and no back-breaking scrubbing. It was -- perfect. When I was finished, I simply tossed the reusable micro-fiber mop head into the wash for next time!
This super-quiet solution is perfect for families with allergies, high-traffic homes, and those moms who don't want to spend an entire afternoon getting semi-acceptable results.
The Reliable Steamboy T1 is available at several fine online retailers, including Amazon, Achoo! Allergy, and HSN.

Review of iRobot Roomba 400
Monday, May 5, 2008

If I could only have a robot for all my household chores, I'd be a much happier lady, and my house would be cleaner!
While we haven't entered the age of having a robot for every need, we've gotten pretty close with the invention of the iRobot Roomba 400 vacuum cleaner. I picked up the base model for the line of handy helpers just last week, and I was impressed beyond belief!
Just charge up your Roomba, set it in the middle of any floor, push the button, and go do something else for awhile. Roomba will take up to 45 minutes sweeping and vacuuming your hardwood or carpeted room without any assistance! It has features such as stair avoidance, automatic transitioning from hard floors to carpets, a large bag-less bin, and the ability to vacuums beneath furniture and other hard-to-reach places! When it's done, you just open the bagless container and dump it in the trash!
I couldn't believe the amount of dirt, dust, and pet hair that the Roomba picked up even AFTER I swept with my regular broom!
I will never go back to regular sweeping or vacuuming again! Learn more about the coolest machine on earth at iRobot's website.

Review of Ziploc Twist N' Loc Containers
Monday, April 28, 2008

If you've suffered the experience of sending hubby to work with leftovers, only to have him LEAVE your good container somewhere in the breakroom (never to return), then you understand the importance of a good disposable container. Put those dessert whip tubs away, and check out my favorite new solution from Ziploc!
I was thrilled to try out the new Twist N' Loc containers after cooking up a batch of Oyster Stew. My hubby HATES the stuff, and needless to say, didn't want any chance of it coming open in the fridge or leaving any kind of odor behind. I poured the leftover soup into the new Twist N' Loc container, and with a few turns of the lid, I knew that it was properly sealed. (I even took a batch over to my parents' house with full faith in the lid staying closed.)
The containers are labeled with measurements to let you know how much is inside, and the container is built tough. With no concerns over a lid potentially popping off, I'm set to go!
Check out the full line of Ziploc storage containers at Ziploc.com!
(Thanks to BzzAgent for hooking us up with a few to try out!)

Review of Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush
Monday, April 21, 2008

Maybe your remember our glowing review of the Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber awhile back. We loved the convenience of a tossable solution to some grimey bathroom problems, and once again, Scrubbing Bubbles has answered the call with another brilliant product for the toilet!
Having been raised using one of those toilet brushes that sits in the bathroom closet and gets tossed only when really, really nasty, I was intrigued by the idea of a disposable toilet cleaner. While not something I would use every single day, I was relieved to see that there was an option to attacking really awful toilet days with a fresh toilet brush that could be chucked after the dirty job was done.
The Fresh Brush had more than enough cleaner to get all up in (and around) my toilet's business, and the fact that we have 4 boys in the house was not apparent at all by the time I was done using the Fresh Brush. The best part? With the press of a button, that icky toilet brush was in my trash can without having to touch any of it.
I could see this as being a very useful tool for those special times when the regular toilet brush just isn't appealing at all. Like those weeks when everyone has the stomach flu? Or perhaps for those professional house cleaners that wouldn't be caught dead using their client's toilet brush or toting around one brush all day long?
Fresh brush is perhaps the "freshest" toilet solution I've tried yet. It comes in two varieties, including a "flushable" kind and the Max brush (which is killer on hard water stains)! More into can be found at the Scrubbing Bubbles website. Brush on!
Wanna win? Just tell us why you would be excited to try out the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush, and you will be entered to win one of 5 Fresh Brush prize packs! Leave your comments on this post. You have until this Saturday, April 26th at 12 p.m. CST to enter. Complete site rules can be found here.

Review of Crafty Baby's Nap Pack
Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Nap time is my favorite time of the day. Kids get to rest, and I get to get a few things done! Blankies and pillows make the nap a special time of comfort and relaxation for my kids, so I was really excited to give the Nap Pack from Crafty Baby a try!
Made from durable (but oh-so-luvable) fleece material, the Nap Pack comes in 7 adorable patterns. (Check out the Green Flowers!) The blanket unrolls to provide a comfortable sleeping surface with light cover, and it all comes attached to a toddler-sized pillow! The Nap Pack is light and portable, and even my 4-yr-old can roll it up and take it with him without assistance from me.

Since kids can get drooly in their sleep (and generally just plain goobery), the Nap Pack is small enough to toss in the wash with the rest of your child's clothes. No shrinkage here!
The Nap Pack is perfect for daycare, preschool, or just vegging out in the living room after a hard day's play! See all the Nap Pack designs and the rest of the Crafty Baby line at their website: www.craftybaby.com

Review of Table Mate 4 Kids
Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Do you have a budding artist in your home? If you do, then you know what it is like to have every surface area in your home transformed into a project workspace. Not only does this make for a lot of clutter, but it isn't the best way for your child to work.
Let me introduce the Table Mate 4 Kids: A mini-me of the original Table Mate, this portable table tray and chair is easy to use and so convenient. Brightly-colored, durable materials make up this tiny table and matching chair that fold up for easy storage in their very own take-along bag. The table itself can be adjusted to 6 heights, including a flat or slanted tray top position. The Table Mate 4 Kids can safely support up to 40 pounds, and even the smallest of children will find that this is a table all their own!
Perfect for crafts, homeschooling enthusiasts, or for anyone needing a desk on the go, the Table Mate for kids gives children a place to call their own. (Warning: This product has the potential to be extremely lovable. If you have more than one who likes to sit and work, consider getting extras!)
The Table Mate 4 Kids (and its larger predecessors) can be purchased from the company website.

Review of My Choice Chart
Friday, January 18, 2008

Raising children is often about teaching them to make good choices. While it is often tempting to rely on a system of punishments and rewards to coax them along, it is a technique that won't work for all children (especially the very young ones) There is a solution that encourages positive change and quality time with your child, and it's brought to us by a Mom with a mission!
My Choice Chart by My Life Ties Positive Parenting Products is a neat option for parents and caregivers everywhere. The Mom-invented behavior chart is designed to help celebrate children and their abilities. The entire chart is magnetic, which means that it can be easily customized for one or more children at various stages in their young life!
The entire chart contains: one large magnetic chart with a hanging cord, 100 positive choice words to help with the encouragement, 50 celebration ideas for sharing in that good behavior, 66 magnetic pieces (including decorative ones for personalization), a storing case, a dry erase marker, and a parent guide to get started quickly!
This program is a wonderful system for children ages 4 and up . By establishing what a "good" choice is, encouraging that choice, empowering children to act, teaching them along the way, and celebrating their victories, this program is all about the "good" in children!
Giving children the power to act upon their abilities is the goal, and when the day is done (and they get to count up all the good choices that they've made), the whole family will feel better about this style of communication and learning. This program is perfect for foster homes, public schools, and any other situation that needs to rely solely on positive parenting solutions instead of traditional punishment and reward methods.
My Choice Chart is available at several fine retailers. So see the list, visit this link! (Note: if you are looking for additional positive parenting resources, My Life Ties lists their favorites Here.)

Review of Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber
Thursday, January 17, 2008

Raise your hand if you hate cleaning your tub or shower? (Come on people, be honest!) This out-of-shape mama could find better ways to stretch, strain, and overwork my short little arms...
Now it's a little easier (and much more efficient) to clean your bathroom fixtures, thanks to the new Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber! While I normally shy away from any disposable-type cleaning products, this is one product that I admit to having a liking for:
The Action Scrubber is unique in that only the scrubbing pads are disposable. The handle (a funky spongy thing) is easy to hold and soft on hands. It has Velcro, so your scrubber pads easily go on, and stay on, until you're done cleaning!
How much soap does each one of these scrubbing pads have? Let's just say there is more than enough. I did my tub, shower insert, and my bathroom sink with a little juice to spare. It was still a bit of a workout (you are scrubbing, people) but the results were excellent. Soap scum was gone in a heartbeat, and I hate to admit it was slightly fun!
Since I'm not a scrubbing junky, this is a product I would use every couple of weeks or so for that deep, deep cleaning we all really should do. The packaging is surprisingly minimal, so if you're concerned about waste, this is one cleaning cheat you can feel relatively good about.
Learn more about the Action Scrubber here......
Happy Scrubbing!

Review of Lost & Found Temporary Tattoos
Tuesday, January 15, 2008

I've always thought that some of those fake tattoos look a little gross on kids. Especially the ugly black skulls and dragons that can sometimes turn up when I'm not paying enough attention. There is a new tattoo that all parents can appreciate, and they are brought to you by Tattoos with a Purpose.
Yes, they are cute. They are more than fashionable, though. The Lost & Found Tattoos for boys and girls are washable and easy to apply. They also serve a very important purpose -- they contain a space for you to write important information on them in case your child ever gets lost!
Imagine how long a few minutes can seem like when you don't know where your child has gone to! I remember the horror I felt the first time I lost one of my children in a busy shopping area. I was fortunate that a kind stranger brought them back to me. But what if my son or daughter didn't know the information they needed to be safely reunited?
Each Lost and Found Tattoo kit contains everything you need to use them safely and effectively: 6 assorted temporary tattoos for boys and girls, 6 moisture wipes for application, 5 alcohol wipes for removal (no more bedraggled tattoos hanging around for weeks), and 1 marker for writing all that important information!
Simply wet the area, press the tattoo, remove the paper, and wait for it to fully dry. Then you can write your phone number in the blank space and get a little peace of mind when you're out and about.
Tattoos with a purpose has many clever varieties for families with different needs. Check out their peanut allergy warnings, tattoos for kids with autism, and field trip notices. All are guaranteed to stay in place on your child's skin until YOU wash it off. The designs are adorable, too!
Visit the Tattoos with a Purpose website for all the details. We think this product is a brilliant step towards safer kids!
(We are excited to announce that Tattoos with a Purpose also has a variety of tattoos for loved ones with Alzheimer's!)

Review of Cozi Central
Monday, January 14, 2008
For those of you who are hopelessly unorganized and looking to start 2008 with a new resolution, I may just have the answer for you! I recently downloaded the Cozi Central organization software. It's FREE, it works, and I am really, really excited to share it with you.
Cozi is a solution that is easy and effective. A simple download (less than a minute), and you are on your way to getting families on the same page, right away! Cozi features a shared family calendar, shopping lists, messages and mobile access, and photo collage screensavers that are easy to view at home, on the road, or from your mobile phone. Everything is easy for families to view and change as needed, and it even syncs with your Outlook program!
What I loved best about Cozi is that is is so simple to get started. Just a few pieces of information (nothing too personal), a quick download, and I'm ready to go! Nothing to buy, and nothing to learn. The click-and-type interface is really clever (anyone can use it!) I even loved how fashionable the program looked on my PC!
Now hubby has NO excuse for missing that next important appointment! Busy families will love how easy it is to communicate and keep the team working together. For more info, and the opportunity to get started with your own version of Cozi, visit their website!

Review of Table For Eight: Raising a Large Family in a Small-Family World
Tuesday, January 8, 2008

"Are they all yours?"
We are only a family of 6, but we still get this asked of us all the time. I can't imagine what larger families have rudely asked of them when they venture out into the small family world. Table for Eight is a lifesaver of a book, not only because it is helpful with its tips, but it just makes you feel better about having a larger family!
Meagan Francis has eloquently expressed in her new book what many of us has only dreamed to say... Large families are awesome, and here's the how and why! While we all know how that handful of children were.. um.. made, it is also nice to hear how to manage a large household once they get here. Tips on room arrangements, shopping for groceries, and education are all covered, not only by the clever Ms. Francis, but by dozens of "real" mothers who have been there/done that.
It doesn't matter if you only have one child. Parents of twosies, listen up! This is the book on family management, and if you are fortunate to have a shoe-full at your house, take heart! You are not alone in your quest to raise an army in both grace and love.
To read more about the book that's changing the way the large family is viewed, check out the Table For Eight website. This nifty read is available at bookstores across the country and online at Amazon.com!

Review of Dropps Laundry Pacs
Wednesday, December 12, 2007

We're all familiar with the clunky, over-sized laundry detergent bottles that you can get at your warehouse stores these days. Big families need a way to secure massive amount of soap for all their washing needs. But have you ever thought about the packaging waste that results? How about the muscle it takes to lug all that home? And what are you really paying for?

Dropps has developed a laundry detergent answer. Similar to soap packs for dishwashers, Laundry Dropps are waste-free, hassle-free, and super effective. Each laundry pac dissolves in the wash. No need for measuring cups. No messy leaks around the bottom of your detergent bottle. No build up around the mouth of your washing machine.
Dropps are not only better for the environment, but they are better for your wallet. While initially a little more expensive than some laundry detergents, you pay only for detergent. You do not pay for cumbersome packaging and added water.
How well do they work? Let me tell you... they are awesome! One pack for small to medium loads, and two packs for jumbo loads (which is the ONLY size we use at our house.) The scent-free and dye-free variety is effective and doesn't aggravate my son's eczema. No enzymes means extra gentle, and they're safe for HE washing machines!
Want to learn more about Dropps? Visit the website for all the news! You can even sign up for a FREE package of Dropps after rebate!

Review of the Bizzi2Go Planner
Wednesday, November 28, 2007

I could teach a class on being hopelessly unorganized. I'm also a bit of commitment-phobe when it comes to planners. I've tried all kinds, and just when I seem to get into the groove of using one, it just stops working!
When I received a Bizzi2Go planner recently, I was a bit skeptical as to how this planner would be any different from the others. But I gave it an honest chance. Now I'm glad that I did!
The Bizzi2Go is smaller than most. It will fit easily into a purse, diaper bag, car console, etc. It is stylish in its appearance, with a clean look and a place for a small photo of a loved one! The spiral binding makes it easy to open and stay open. The tabs are simple (one for every month), and everything is very sturdy.
Perhaps the most unique and usable feature of the planner is that it is meant for women. What do I mean by that? Well, without being mean, it has room for large writing within its date boxes. These planners were obviously designed by someone who doesn't usually use the teeny-tiny chicken-scratch of most hubbies to mark their calendars! (And that works for us...)
Fold-out pages give maximum use out of minimum space. At a price you can afford, check out all the 2008 styles at www.bizzi2go.com!
(Oh, and did we mention that during Nov. and Dec., 5% of all proceeds will go to Lily of the Valley Orphanages?)

Review of TVTime Kit
Monday, November 19, 2007

Ok. I'll admit it. My kids can sometimes watch a little too much TV. While I don't question the quality of what they watch (we only have one channel where we live with any children's programming), I do acknowledge that it can get a bit out of hand.
Like when I'm sick. Or they are sick. Or I'm just not paying attention. They can consume as much television as they're allowed, so the responsibility really falls on me. But what if there was a way to teach children to be responsible (to a certain point) of their own television and video entertainment quantity?
TVTime is a new twist on an old ideal. Give children a certain amount of time they can watch TV in advance, and allow them to determine how they will spend it -- a TV allowance if you will. The TVTime kit contains everything you need to get started: A timer that children can easily restart each time a new television segment starts, tickets representing 15 minutes of TV time (and a special "movie" ticket for even more viewing), and a handy box to set on the TV and put the tickets in.
While I will be the first to say that I possibly could do the work and set up something similar myself, I never will. The ticket box construction is durable, tickets are a thick glossy material that kids will dig, and the timer is virtually break-proof (It is glass, but housed in a nifty wooden frame.) There are also tickets in different colors so that each child may have their own color.
Based on the John Hopkins study that reducing tv watching can have a positive effect on children's behaviours, TVTime truly is a timely product. For more information on the study, TVTime or it's creators, visit www.mytvtime.com!

Review of UtiliTEA Kettle
Wednesday, November 7, 2007

Are you a tea drinker? This time of year, I guzzle it (not very lady-like, I know) by the cup-fulls. Black tea, green tea, wellness tea -- you name it, I drink it! But I was getting a little irritated using my coffee maker to heat up my water. It just wasn't the right temp for optimal tea flavor.
The UtiliTEA Kettle is the quickest, easiest way I know to get your tea water to the perfect temp. Regardless of how you like it, the UtiliTEA will get it for you. Just plug in the base, set the filled kettle on the the base, adjust the knob to your desired temperature, push down the button and wait! In minutes, the kettle will boil your water to the perfect temperature and shut itself off!
The Kettle can be used to heat water for tea, cocoa, cider, and more. Stylish silver and black accents will match any decor. I love my UtiliTEA! (The kids love it too... my 9 year old can make her own Chai drinks without help from Mom or Dad!)
UtiliTEA heats up to 4 cups of water instantly. No whistles or drips. Available at specialty coffee and tea shops nationwide!
