Say "Thanks" to a Nurse in Your Life!

As a mom to 5 kids who were all born via c-section, nurses played a VERY important role in the first few days of each kid's life.  Wonderful, caring nurses were there for me after each of their births; they helped make sure I was comfortable after surgery, and they were always available to help with keeping baby happy and cared-for in those first painful hours, as well.  Even with my husband rooming in with me, I couldn't have done it without those nurses!

I had never considered that nursing may be a good career for one (or more) of my kids to get into.  Then, I learned that the healthcare field is experiencing a severe shortage of nurses; there is currently a nationwide vacancy of over 100,000 positions, and that number is expected to grow to 800,000 by the year 2020!

There is good news, however; a 2011 Gallup Poll announced that the public voted nurses number one for “honesty and ethical standards of various professions” for the eighth consecutive year. This means that nursing may be perfect for any of my kids to get into; they are all so caring towards others!

Do you know of a nurse who has made your life better by getting into the demanding yet necessary nursing field?  You can nominate him or her for the J&J Amazing Nurses Contest!  You can learn more and submit your story at the official Facebook page!  The winner will and a guest will attend the 2012 CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute show in Los Angeles, courtesy of CNN.
