It's Not Too Late for a Summer Getaway

Summer may be far from over, but there's still time to squeeze in a little family fun time.  If you haven't done a one night stay at a hotel lately, it may be just what you need to reconnect with the kids before starting a crazy, busy school year.  Our homeschool is already in session, but I can see that mommy may need a break, and our recent stay at the Downtown Omaha Embassy Suites was exactly what I may need again.

Need to escape?  If work in the garden, back-to-school shopping, and the general doldrums of August have you down, here are a few things you can do with the family during a one night hotel getaway.

1.  Catch a Dollar Flick.  Why spend nine dollars a head when the kids will spend most of their time asking to use the bathroom? My family of seven would spend a small fortune attending a feature film, but our discount movie chains can help us enjoy the air-conditioning and a family film for less. (I recommend filling up on snacks before you leave the theater. Our Embassy Suites hotel had popcorn in the vending machines AND microwaves in the rooms.)

2.  Try a Food Adventure.  Have the kids ever tried German food?  What about dishes from a food truck?  Since breakfast at an Embassy Suites hotel is complimentary, you can splurge a little bit on the family dinner out.  Try a location that offers something new, but can get the kids a few favorite side dishes just in case if the tasting doesn't go as well as planned.

3.  Dunk in the Pool.  I was really impressed by how clean the swimming pool was at our Embassy Suites stay; it sure beats the noisy, crowded city pool.  Grownups will love the hot tub.

After spending many nights in dumpy hotel rooms that were way too small for my large family, I am very happy to have had only excellent experiences at every Embassy Suites location we have stayed at across the country.  If you're looking for a consistent, clean, and affordable destination, be sure to check out their website at www.embassysuites.com, "like" them on Facebook, or find them on Twitter!
