Review of Text Bands

Technology in the classroom can be fun and a great way to connect with friends and even make new ones!  One of the more clever commercials I've seen this year feature the new Text Bands product from Hallmark, a type of fashion-bracelet/wristband that allows the wearers to exchange text messages by simply touching (handshake, fist bump, etc.)  For parents who want their kids have the latest in style and tech, these are surprisingly affordable and allow kids to express themselves in a new way this school year.

The main portion of the band comes in a two colors (purple or black) and can be customized by interchangeable bands that are more "expressive".  There are two licensed designs at the time of this writing: Star Wars and Minnie Mouse.  The bands are made of the same rubber material that kids are already wearing in the form of bracelets on their wrists, so they are easy to keep clean and won't dig into kids' skin.

As far as the texting feature goes, as long as kids aren't obsessive and use it to do things in class they shouldn't do, there is no reason they shouldn't be allowed in schools.  Texts are limited to just 10 characters, and the kids have to actually touch to send the message; it's like passing a note with a more high-tech twist.

The Text Bands are available only at Hallmark Gold Crown stores.  You can find a store near you at the  online locator.
