Taking on Fried Foods with our Big Boss Oil-Less Fryer

I love fried foods, but I know they aren't good for me.  I had been using my oven to bake up crunchy stuff, and was having mixed results.  Things seemed to come out soggy or limp and the flavor was never there.

We received a Big Boss Oil-Less Fryer to try out, and I immediately fell in love.  While it's not 100% just like frying, the combination of infrared, convection, and halogen heating gives "fried" foods a nice crunchy texture without the guilt.  My family is rather large, so, I find that -- while the unit is large -- it only does about 3/4 the amount of food that I would fit on my standard cooking sheet.  This may not be a bad thing, however, because our portion sizes could use a makeover, as well.

Here is an example of how we use the Big Boss: Great Value Frozen Sweet Potato Fries --

The fries cooking...

The fries are done!
The fries were really crispy and not too dry.  I liked that they seemed to have a combo of fried and broiled characteristics (there were some more "done" edges that I really like.)  We chose not to use the oil sprayer to give them a spritz before, but, if you like them to have a more "fried" taste, you can do so.

Perhaps my favorite use for this appliance is to make whole chickens:

And, of course, the recipe book that comes with it is full of ideas, like these Teriyaki Wings we made:

All in all, I'm very happy with this appliance.  It takes up some counter space (but no more than a bread machine), but it saves me energy over using my old electric stove.  It also saves time and cleans up easily.  I don't know that I would use it for frying as much as the other dishes I make, but it would be a wonderful addition to your cooking arsenal!
