Celebrating Memorial Day -- With Jobs!

The economy has been rough for everyone, but maybe not as rough as it has been on our returning soldiers.  While much of the press has been focused on how to get new grads into the workforce, this group of often forgotten-about Americans has also been looking for ways to get back into civilian life by getting a good enough job to provide for their families.

Walmart has taken the challenge to put our brave men and women back to work through their own promise to hire.  By visiting their new website Careers with a Mission, you can get more info on this amazing initiative that, among other things:
  • Looks to hire 10,000 veterans by 2018.  Members of the military who have been honorably discharged within the past 12 months and meet Walmart's standard hiring criteria, will have a position available at Walmart or Sam’s Club.
  • Aims to support military families by guaranteeing a job at a nearby store or club for all military personnel, and military spouses, employed at Walmart and Sam’s Club who move to a different part of the country because they or their spouse have been transferred by the United States military.
In all of the hustle and bustle of the Memorial Day holiday, it's good to know that the store we shop at most will remember what's important.  Serving our country shouldn't be something that goes unrewarded or unnoticed; the opportunity to to work and earn a living is the least we can offer our everyday heroes.
