Crafts for Kids: Simple 3D Gift Tags

My kids are big crafters, but they really enjoy being let loose with the art supplies.  I can sometimes get them to do a directed activity, but their favorite way to create is with a blank canvas and a whole bunch of art supplies!

Crayola sent us a box of some of our favorites this past week: Model Magic, Washable Markers, Glitter Glue, and more!  We went to work to come up with an idea that would last beyond the Christmas season.  I went to the Crayola website and found these 3D Gift Tags, and knew that we could work with the ideas shown.

Since my kids are younger, getting the level of detail that they showed in the tutorial wasn't possible, so I let them help as much as possible, and we did a simpler overall design.

To start, roll out the Model Magic color of your choice.  We used a small cutting board and the barrel of the Washable Markers to do this.

Once you have an even thickness, we cut out the shapes for the tags using a pizza cutter.

Next, we made a hole in each tag with a straw.

Now it was time to decorate!  We used the markers to draw "To:" and "From:" on the tags.  (We can fill in the names after they dry with a finer tipped marker or pen).  We also used the Glitter Glue to give the tags some sparkly detail!

There is so much more you can do with this idea, but we have so many tags to make!  Keeping it simple kept the kids from getting frustrated, and these tags will keep long after Christmas is over!
