Review of The Young Scientists Club: Clifford the Big Red Dog Kit

Whether you're looking for a way for kids to stay entertained and learn throughout the summer, or you need some fun homeschool supplements to keep science interesting, you may be considering some of the "kits" available on the market.  Some of them, like those offered by the Young Scientists Club, are geared towards kids ages 8 and up.  But the company recently added "Clifford the Big Red Dog" products to their offerings, and all of my boys ages 3-10 had a good time doing the activities contained inside "Animal Science" kit.

The kit contains everything in the picture above, including enough supplies and instructions to do several activities (we couldn't do them all in one day.)  You will need some of your own supplies, but those are things most families have on hand (like vegetable oil or flour) and they are clearly marked in each activity, so you can choose to skip that one until you are able to purchase them.

The animal science kit covered everything from life cycles to camouflage to habitats and more.  We made models of animal tracks, and fossils, too!

The projects were a little messy, but not unmanageable.  I think that's what made them "fun" and gave the kids a reason to listen to what was being taught.

While just one of the available kits, I get a good feeling about the rest of them from our experience with this one.  There wasn't anything too complicated for any parent to teach, and it gave us some great memories and things to discuss later.

You can learn more about this kit (priced at $19.99) as well as the others at the official website.
