Alice Through the Looking Glass Tea Party Tips and Scone Recipe!

1:24 PM

One of the best movies of the year is out on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital format. Alice Through the Looking Glass is the hit sequel to Alice in Wonderland, starring all the same cast with all that good Tim Burton magic!

Disney's adaptation of the girl who took down the Jabberwocky is back. This time, in an all-new, time-travel adventure to save her friend Mad Hatter from certain death. This epic origin story tells us just how the Queen of Hearts became so evil, and you'll get a peek into development of the Alice in Wonderland story. Nothing is ever as it seems, as we learn that good and evil can mix and bend. You'll love how this movie is done!

Full of peril and excitement, I think this was one of my favorites this year! We watched it with all of our kids. With the exception of a few tense action moments, it was appropriate for all ages!

What better way to celebrate the release than with a tea party? In the movie, Mad Hatter and friends are forced to relive the minute leading up to the tea party over and over (thanks to a clever trick by Time). We don't think you should have to wait for tea, so we're sharing a simple scone recipe that everyone in our family loves!

Scones:
  • 2 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut up
  • 1⁄4 cup granulated sugar (use 1/3 for slightly sweeter scones)
  • 2⁄3 cup milk
Mix together dry ingredients. Add in butter and mash with a fork until little granules form (it will look like sand.) Add milk and mix until sticky dough forms. Drop by heaping tablespoonful onto a lined cookie sheet and bake 13 minutes at 415 degrees. Serve slightly warm with tea. I like to have mine with lemon curd!

Disney sent us a lovely tea set to enjoy our own tea parties. They aren't nearly as exciting as those in the film, but, surprisingly, my boys do like a good tea party. I think a good scone makes all the difference!
