We have tried quite a few baking projects here at Lille Punkin', but most of them have been led by my daughter – who loves to bake! We were excited to do two kinds of cupcakes with designs, instructions and supplies from Wilton (the baking gurus, in my opinion.) We did both the harvest pumpkin cupcakes and the spooky cupcakes. They didn't come out perfectly, but I think we did a good job (and they tasted great and look pretty cool.)
Here is a photo of our buttercream frosting, which we divided into three colors for the 2 projects (orange, black, and white.)
We used both the buttercream mix from Wilton, and two colors of Wilton tint (orange and black.) We found that needed quite a bit of the black to keep it from being gray, but there was plenty on the container to get the job done.
We had a hard time keeping our 4-year-old out of the icing.
My daughter got quick with the frosting, and also did some nice trim with the Halloween and Harvest-inspired sprinkle mixes (which come fully mixed so you can use one container for your entire project.)
My 16-month old liked grabbing the sprinkle mixes and shaking them like maracas!
Here are a few of our finished cupcakes. Aren't they adorable?
We had a bit of trouble doing the black and orange icing together. There is considerably more black in our frosting mix than the orange. We'll have to practice that!
These cupcakes tasted just as neat as they looked, and you can use your favorite cake mix to create the flavor of your choice. (We chose chocolate!)
These cupcakes took us 20 minutes to mix and bake, plus over 30 minutes to decorate. A seasoned baker would need no more than an hour from start to finish, and these are perfect for parties!
