Walmart's Garden Center and Outdoor Living Displays are Here!

I have been impatiently waiting for the weather to warm up so that we can get something started with our yard and garden.  We had 70 degree weather just 3 days ago, and then, last night -- it snowed!  My local Walmart, however, is getting into high gear with their optimistic anticipation of what I hope are better days ahead.  I went there with my husband this morning to do some browsing, and here are the highlights of what I see marks an excellent year for adding some excitement to your outdoor environment.

First, the berries!  I ordered a few tiny berry roots from a supplier, but these bushes on display at Walmart are much bigger (and to be honest, more affordable.)  I can see that some of the leaves did not appreciate the chilly outside air, but, since this is the time that you are to plant blackberry and blueberry bushes, I was relieved to see that Walmart was doing some of the "hardening off" already.  It will make the plants that much more prepared to tolerate being outdoors when you get them home.

There were also some beautiful annuals (but we're not ready for that, yet.)

I strongly considered updating my outdoor living furniture with one of these new sets.  (But then I realized I can probably buy new cushions for my existing set at Walmart for much less....)

And finally, I saw a few "cute" things I could give for Mother's Day gifts or just decorate my rock garden with.  This gnome isn't just quirky, but he's a bobble-head, too!  (I can see him nodding in the wind... and my kids would love him!)

What about you?  Are you reading for spring?  What kind of lawn and garden items do you have on your "to buy" list this year?
