Canning was always something I remember my grandmother and mother doing growing up. I always thought it was much more complicated than it is, however.  And while some recipes are a bit more involved, and pressure canning can take some practice, using a boiling water bath to preserve acidic foods is one of the most convenient and economical way to store up foods for your family for months ahead.

We've already done several water bath canning projects here on Lille Punkin', including my favorite canned peaches in light syrup recipe. Even if you have no experience preserving, it's now easier than ever to create your own canned delights in your own kitchen -- even with the smallest batches!

Ball, the name I grew up with in the kitchen for all my glass jar canning needs, is wanting to help everyone embrace the beauty of preserving with their 5th annual Can-It-Forward Day!  This special event is designed to make canning an accessible hobby or lifestyle choice for anyone -- no matter your kitchen skills.  To bring us the ultimate in simple canning experiences, they sent me a few items to try in my home; they included:

The New Ball Home Canning Discovery Kit - This easy-to-use kit comes with 3 Ball jars, lids, and rings, along with a recipe booklet and a super clever can "lifting" system that keeps hands away from hot water and makes boiling water bath canning a breeze.

 It easily holds three included jars for making your favorite jams, jellies, or salsa.


We also got to try out the new red Design Series lids from Ball. These are a super cute way to add a little pizzaz to your jars.  I can imagine some pretty food gifts with them this holiday season; and they are BPA-free!



My canning adventures would NOT be complete without the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. There are so many tried and true recipes in here!

Also, if you're going to make salsa, might I suggest you skip the little packets of seasoning and get a big bottle of Ball Fiesta Salsa mix? It's just the right size to get you through a season of tomatoes!

  3. I want my mom to make some yummy jam so I can have fresh jam every morning on my toast or pancakes. I also like to use them as glasses for ice tea. Thank you for the chance :)
