Martha. Betty. I envy them both. I barely bake, and when I do, I'm stuck trying to come up with something unique. I really wanted to make special cupcakes for the 4th of July this year, but I have no skills!
Thankfully, my husband picked up some baking staples with a simple red, white, and blue theme. We stocked up on yellow cake mix, sprinkles (in blue, and red/white peppermint.) I got the creamy frosting that was extra fluffy, and some new Wilton baking cups, too!
They are really nothing special, but I got compliments on how festive they were. (I tried adding some blue sprinkles into the batter, but with our super yellow farm eggs, it made them a tad green!) You could get very fancy with frosting tips and food coloring, but these work just as well with a few sprinkles here and there.
Do you have any special 4th of July recipes that help you celebrate? What are your favorite DIY ideas for the holiday kitchen?
