Halloween Fun with Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train (Giveaway)

We usually don't plan this far ahead for Halloween, but with 5 kids, I just don't have time for last-minute additions.  We had the chance to review the new Dinosaur Train "Tiny" costume from California Costume Collections, and my 4-year-old fell in love with it!

Here he is "modeling" the costume:

And here he is not taking it off -- even for school.

In summary, this costume is super-soft, and looks just like the character from the show.  My son thinks it's comfy enough to never take off.  We may have some problems at bed time tonight!

The costumes are just one fun way that Dinosaur Train is making Halloween more family-friendly this year.  They also offer a budget-friendly DIY costume idea for families who might not want to spend $35 - $40 on a commercial costume.  You can find the directions for this idea at PBS.org; there are sew and no-sew versions!  For a more step-by-step guide, see the video!

They are also getting into the spooky spirit with a new episode of Dinosaur Train on October 20th, entitled "Haunted Roundhouse."
In Haunted Roundhouse, dad takes the kids on a special Night Train to Troodon Town, where the Troodons have decorated their Roundhouse into a “haunted house” for a spooky party. The kids end up meeting a strange new nocturnal creature – a mammal named Vlad Volaticotherium, who was hiding in the roundhouse trying to get some sleep.  And in Big Pond Pumpkin Patch, the Pteranodon family learns more about the customs of their neighbors, the Lambeosaurus family, when they are invited for the first time to accompany them to the Big Pond to celebrate “Gourd Day” – a kind of Mesozoic Halloween. The kids see their first pumpkins, and Larry Lambeosaurus even shows our family how to hollow them out and carve faces into them.
What Dinosaur Train roundup would be complete with a book?  There is also a fun new read called "The Spooky Scavenger Hunt" from Grosset & Dunlap that children ages 4-8 will enjoy ($3.99 from your favorite book retailer.)

Don't forget to visit the Dinosaur Train page at PBSKids.org for even more fun games, coloring pages, and activities.  It's all free!

Wanna Win?  We are giving away one copy of "The Spooky Scavenger Hunt" book to a lucky reader.  To be entered to win, just tell us what kind of costume your child will wear this year!  You have until October 13th at 11:59 pm CST to get your entries in. U.S. 18+ only. (Don't forget to enter our other blog giveaways while you're here!)
