We are pumped about the release of Monte Carlo on DVD Tuesday, October 18th. The cast is delightful, and because my kids are big Selena Gomez fans, it helped sell the movie as a family entertainment option to even my younger children. The movie details an adventurous yet PG-rated romp through Europe, as the character played by Selena gets mistaken for royalty. High-class fun ensues, and, of course, there is a love interest that gets introduced along the way.
There is virtually nothing that parents would object to in this film. The girls are rather well-behaved for women in their late teens and early twenties. The "love" scenes are one or two mild kisses. The most you would have to be concerned with is the premise of pretending to be someone else to gain a benefit (i.e., lying.) But, like all movies with a lesson, the consequences of not telling the truth are allowed to play out, and kids will learn that honesty is still the best policy.
Here is a quick quote from my just-turned 13-year-old daughter on why she liked the film:
"I liked the story line. It was a very well put together movie. It was a very family friendly movie as well. I liked the cast, I could not think of any other actors that would play the parts better than they did. It was also very funny, there were times in the movie were I could not stop laughing! There were not very really any parts in the movie that I did not like. I would most definitely tell my friends and family about it. It was a very good movie!"So there you go! Fun times, a big trip, great music, and laughs for all. For a girls night out (or in), this movie tops the rest. (Check it out on DVD Oct. 18th!)
