Growing up, jcpenney Portrait Studios was the place to take kids to be photographed. There were no mall stores offering quick pics, and my family got all dressed up to combine a day of shopping for new clothes with the "must-do" task of getting a family photo.
30 years later, jcpenney is still a choice provider of family portraits. The struggles to get everyone "picture-perfect", however, haven't gone away. Here are a few portrait tips I've picked up to keep the day less stressful for everyone:
- Dress at the last minute. If you have a long drive to the studio (like we did growing up), dress everyone in undershirts until you get there, and then put on their top layers in the car before you go in (or ask to dress in the studio.) No eating on the way.
- Take a potty break. All kids should be encouraged to use the toilet before the photo shoot. Arrive 15 minutes early to allow for diaper changes. (Be prepared to have an extra outfit on hand for baby blowouts.)
- Bring your salon. Fuzzy hair and flyaways will happen (even if you groomed very well at home.) Bring a bottle of kids' detangler or plain water, as well as a brush and extra hair accessories for girls. Mom and Dad can bring along their gear, too, if they are being photographed.
- Bribe. It's perfectly OK to say things like "when we have all smiled for the camera, and the photographer's done with us, we can go get ice cream!" It's not like you get a family photo every day, right?
*I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of jcpenney Portrait Studio. I was asked to create a Pinterest Board and pin at least five (5) pins. I give jcpenney the right to repin any or all images/original content from this board. I received a promotional item as a thanks for my participation.
