My teenage daughter is a tough book critic. She is usually reading 3-4 books at a time, both for her homeschool and for fun. We recently had her review Victoria Simcox's new book: The Magic Warble. Here is what my 13-year-old thought of it:
"The Magic Warble" was one the of the best books that I have ever read. It was exciting, comical, and intense. I was entertained every second of the book. There have been times, while reading even the best of books, that I have have had to push myself to finish a chapter, but this book had you entertained for all of it.
The plot was similar to "The Chronicles of Narnia", by going to a different world to to help return peace to it, but it was different and unique in it's own ways (different enough not to make you feel like you were reading the same book.) I very much liked that it had good, classic grammar. A lot of books have turned me away from reading them, because so many times they had been grammatically incorrect, but this author wrote this book incredibly well.
While being a very good book full of humor, fun, and adventure, I would recommend it for the older age groups, most likely teens. There were a few parts in the book that may be frightening to the younger age groups, but nothing that parents would most likely be in disagreement of.
It will also be more appropriate for the older age groups because of the message that the books bring. (I think that they would appreciate it more if they were older.) She had little things in the book that made it more enjoyable also. For instance, I very much liked the artwork in the book. (The artwork made it more real.) Another thing that she had in it that I liked was the map in the beginning. I like it when books do that, so that while you are reading, you can go back see where the characters are. It is pretty fascinating!
Overall, it was an amazing book. Anybody can write words on a page, but Victoria Simcox did an amazing job of making it a book, something I didn't want to put down until I was finished. I will definitely be recommending it to friends. So there you have it! My daughter gave it a high mark! Here is a bit more about the author:
