As big Veggie Tales fans, we get very excited right before each new movie comes out. The release of "The Penniless Princess" was no exception. This movie, based on the classic tale of A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Brunett, was a joy for my children and I to watch together. It was actually one of the most inspiring veggie tales films I've seen in ages, and it challenged me to change my perspective on life completely.
In "The Penniless Princess" a young girl with means soon finds herself an orphan in the care of a mean school headmaster. Even as she is forced to start living in the cold attic along with the hired help, however, the main character shows that it is possible to love others through the most dire of circumstances. I really appreciated how the story focused on Christ's command to love others, even if they are not showing us kindness first. The ending of the movie brings about the kind of justice that children will crave, and the entire film brings up lots of opportunities to talk about how we show others love in our daily lives, and how faithful the Lord is in answering our prayers.
While this film, at first glance, may seem to be geared more towards girls (especially with the cover of the movie reflecting a Princess theme), there is nothing about the movie that a boy wouldn't enjoy. A tale of friendship, perseverance, and hope, "The Penniless Princess" brings a classic story to life with the clever writing we always come to expect from our pals at BigIdea.
If you want in easy way to share just how valuable each of your children are, and how much God loves them, this is the perfect way to send the message. The video is available wherever DVDs are sold, including Amazon.com.
