BLOGFEST: Review of Hot Dots Pen and Cards from Educational Insights

Welcome BlogFest participants (and our regular readers)....

We are getting a bit tired of textbooks and typical flashcards, but we know that simple drills are essential for certain areas of our homeschool study.  I was happy to see that Educational Insights has a product called Hot Dots, which is a type of electronic flashcard that kids can use to test themselves on the basics, such as geography and science.

Hot Dots Flashcards: States and Capitals / Astronomy
Lights up red = wrong answer.
The product is super easy to set up: Just load the pen with 2 AAA batteries (not included) and open the cards.  Right away, you answer the questions by pressing the tip of the pen against one of several dots, depending on your answer.  The pen will let you know right away if you are wrong or right, both with a light (red for wrong, green for correct) and an audible prompt.  If you guess incorrectly, you can try again; there is no limit to the number of times kids can guess, making it fun to learn!

Easy storage in the durable case
The Pen fits in the card case!
These are great for independent study time, in the car, or between lessons.  Since there are all kinds of cards available, kids from Kindergarten to Junior High can find the products applicable to their homeschool time.

You can find the pen, as well as a wide range of cards, starting at around $11 via the Educational Insights site.
