Last week was a scary time for us. We had heard a noise in the driveway and looked out the window just in time to see our delivery driver open the gate to bring a package in; our giant Great Pyrenees mix puppy took the chance to squeeze by -- taking off down the road before we could catch him.
He had never done this before, and we were unable to call him back. We were scared. When would he come home? Would he come home?
Later that night, as the kids were going to bed, we were sad. Glenn, our puppy hadn't returned. With all the hunters out shooting, we were worried that he may have been hurt. We were prepared to have to tell the kids that their dog was gone.
Suddenly, as I was turning off the front porch light, I heard a scratching at the door. It was GLENN! He had returned after being gone for hours, ready to have his evening meal.
While we learned an important lesson about making sure the gate stayed shut. I also learned something about the dog that often annoyed me with his hyperactivity and his cumbersome size: I love that dog. He is a part of our family, and we rewarded him with lots of puppy treats that night. (We even let him in the house for a little cuddle time.)
My dog calms me when I'm stressed, which is why I think the job of therapy dog is a good one for many breeds. Cesar Canine Cuisine agrees and has created a special Facebook page all about it!
