Did you use layaway this year to save up some cash and avoid paying interest on credit cards? Good for you!
Make sure you mark your calendars for the dates that your stores require items to be paid for and picked up; for Walmart layaway, that date is 12/14. Remember, Walmart shoppers will also be rewarded for getting their items on time with a refundable open fee (in the form of a gift card)!
What one item are you most excited about getting out of layaway? I can't tell you what would come out of mine (because my kids may read my blog). When I was a kid, however, I know my Mom used layaway quite a bit to shop for our presents (not only was it economical, it kept us from finding the presents early on.) I think that many kids I knew had bikes put away in the layaway (or at least that is the only way I could figure their parents could keep them hidden so well.)
What should parents do once their layaway items are home? There is quite a bit of time between the 14th and the 25th. Some parents have been known to hide gifts in the garage; we have several toys stashed in our coat closet (with coats hanging all over them.) Parents have even been so crafty as to store toys in the ceiling panels and floor boards of their home!
Wherever you decide to stash those goodies, remember that you can keep the secret even better by making sure the presents are wrapped (any evidence of tampering will be much easier to find.) Don't forget to get your items picked up by the 14th, and happy wrapping!
