Six Star Protein Offers Smoothies and Bars!

I've been a fan of protein bars for years.  I love taking them in my purse for those moments when I miss a meal, and especially on long airplane trips.  As a pregnant mom, I don't often indulge in them, as many on the market are full of sugar.

Six Star Pro Nutrition products, now available at Walmart, are an affordable option for moms who want a protein bar that is more nutrients and less sweetness.  I sampled the chocolate peanut butter one, and while a little gummy due to the density of the filling, it tasted like real peanut butter -- not candy.  My husband agreed that the flavor on this was far better than most protein bars, but he mentioned that a little more crunch (like some crisps) would have made it more pleasing.  This bar has 20 grams of protein per bar, and just 6 grams of sugars. (It also costs just $.98 each).

We also tried the Chocolate Deluxe.  My husband preferred the texture of this bar more, but still liked the flavor of the peanut butter overall.

Next, we gave the Instant Protein Smoothie a shot.  This is a powdered drink like you'd find at your local nutrition store or your gym, but it's priced at just $9.97 for a pouch that holds 11 servings.  You can mix it with milk, juice, or water (I chose juice), shake or blend well, and drink immediately.  It does take quite a bit of shaking or mixing, as the powder can clump.  I found the drink, which is already berry flavored to be too sweet when mixed with juice.  I think I'll continue to mix it with milk and add some fresh frozen bananas for a more substantial breakfast option.

As far as nutrition goes, this shake has it all, including:
  • 15 grams of plant-based, dairy-free protein
  • super-concentrated greens blend with broccoli, spinach, & blueberry
  • the antioxidant equivalent (vitamin C) of 5 servings of fruits and veggies
  • 21 vitamins and minerals
  • 6 grams of fiber
  • omega-3s
  • probiotic cultures
  • digestive enzymes
  • no lactose, aspartame, or cholesterol
If you are already using protein products in your daily diet, I think these are an affordable and nutrient-rich option.  Find them at your local Walmart or Walmart.com!
