Make Garlic Bread from Stale Hot Dog & Hamburger Buns

Garlic bread is an indulgent treat; the best kinds are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.  With the perfect seasoning, it's also the best way to finish off a homemade spaghetti dinner!

We have been making our own garlic bread the frugal way, using only leftover hot dog and hamburger buns.  It's easy and costs almost nothing!

To create this effortless side, just gather up your leftover buns.  Stale or dry is OK, but avoid using any that have mold.

Then, coat each piece with butter or margarine -- I prefer whipped or spreadable butter for a more authentic flavor.  Sprinkle each piece with your choice of seasonings; I make it easy by using a California garlic salt with with parsley in it.  (For cheesy bread, you may also top with Parmesan or Italian cheese shreds.)

Then, use the "Broil" setting on your oven to create the right temp.  Bake the buns for just a few minutes (watch so that they don't burn) on a cookie sheet.  (I like to use my "dark" sheet for this treat.)

After just 2 minutes, your hamburger or hot dog bun garlic bread should be perfect!  My kids like the pieces that are less dark, but hubby likes the ones with extra dark edges.

Have you made garlic bread this way?
