An Easy Solution to Clogged Drains: No DIY Skills Needed!

If you've ever heard the deep gurgle of a slow shower drain, you know that it's necessary to get in there and do something about it.  Clogged bath and shower drains can be the worst to deal with, and most don't have an endless budget to toss around on having a professional come out for each and every clogged drain.

After "fixing" the last few clogged drains in my own bathroom, it has become pretty apparent that the #1 cause for all of our issues is hair.  With two long-haired females in the home, and boys who often let their bandaids float down the drain to get tangled up in the hair, prevention is really the only way to ensure our shower routine isn't disrupted.  I usually end up unscrewing the bathtub drain, reaching in with a pair of tweezers, and pulling out the most disgusting long piece of hairball you have ever seen.

While I can't save you from having to remove hair from your drain (and believe me, it's so nasty!), I can make the process as simple as removing the bathtub plug and just pulling out your DrainWig.

What's  Drain Wig?  It's a long "chain" of sorts that goes down into your shower or tub drain, collecting hair and debris while you bathe, making it easy to remove the hair when you feel the drain getting sluggish.  You can choose to toss the DrainWig when you're done (they're so affordable, it won't be a waste), OR you can choose to be super resourceful and cut out the hair to use the Drain Wig again (which we will NOT be doing at my house -- sorry.)

Tub model

The design is slightly different for the tub version than the shower version.  The shower version just lays flat against the drain, while the tub version uses a suction cup to keep it on the side of the tub and out of the way of your drain stopper.

  9. I clean the drain every week or so. I have long hair, so if I don't clean it regularly, it gets really nasty.

  10. I definitely do not clean my drains as often as I should! I have very thick and long hair and I'm constantly scrambling to catch it before it washes down the drain. I'm not very successful because my tub is draining pretty slow right now and needs a good cleaning. I'd love to have a drain wig to throw in after this cleaning. I love that with the drain wig you don't have to actually touch the big glob of hairy grossness and you can just toss it into the garbage. Thank you so much for this awesome giveaway!!

  22. Not often enough it would seem. Just a couple weeks ago, it wouldn't drain very well. We used Drano but that didn't help too much. Found out there was a HUGE ball of hair balled up right underneath the drain itself. Had to take a flashlight and a pair of tweezers to get it out and boy did it smell! Making sure I check it every other week now! So gross!
