I'm pretty bad about some kinds of maintenance. I've gotten some things down, like changing the filters on our air purifiers, and dumping the dust collection bin on my vacuum. Things that happen outside of my living areas, however, often escape my attention.
One of those things is the garage door, and I know I'm not the only one who is guilty of forgetting it needs maintenance, too! In fact, so many people wait until it gets "squeaky" before doing anything about it. Since it needs lubrication in order to move freely, it would be nice to get it taken care of BEFORE it starts making noise.
That's why I thought the new program from the International Door Association (IDA) – a worldwide trade association of door and access systems professionals – was a clever idea. It invites consumers to register for twice-a-year emails from its consumer website, GarageDoorCare.com. These aren't complicated messages, they just tell you that it's time to lubricate the door. And the process of doing so isn't that difficult.
The garage door may be the most neglected appliance in the home. (According to a 2014 survey on garage door maintenance conducted by the Harris Poll, 27 percent of homeowners said that their garage door’s hinges and rollers had never been lubricated!)
This simple maintenance task can be done by even the most novice of home owners. Just visit GarageDoorCare.com to get more details on lubrication and other basic steps homeowners can take to keep their garage door in top condition.
