Feel the Strange Magic with George Lucas' new Family Film!

It's been awhile since we have enjoyed a good love story at the Knerl house. You see, we have 5 sons, 1 tom-boy daughter, and a mom and dad who really love action, sci-fi, and historical films. We never willingly choose to watch anything romantic.

We took a chance on the newly released Strange Magic, however, and weren't disappointed!  This delightful romp features the story of two adjacent kingdoms: one evil and one good.  The only thing separating their kindgoms is a border of a special flower that can be made into an honest-to-goodness love potion!

The story takes viewers deep into the "bog" as the evil Bog King stops at nothing to make sure this potion never sees the light of day again.  But his plan is interrupted by a selfish suitor to the beautiful but head-strong princess who is in line to be queen.  This suitor wants his place on the throne and see the potion as the only way to win over the queen-to-be.

This film is a musical. There is more singing than spoken lines, but the action is entertaining, and my boys loved both the characters and the peril.  If you enjoy "vintage" tunes (like the title "Strange Magic"), you'll find the updated versions mash well with some newer remade songs like Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger".

A love story that isn't quite what it seems, this has enough character development to keep adults entertained.  We chuckled at some of the dry humor, and were relieved that it seems to be geared at kids ages 8 and up, if only for the wit.  There is nothing inappropriate, and kids as young as 2 can sing and dance along!
