If you live in Nebraska, you know what a Runza is. And while there is a restaurant chain that makes homemade runzas so delicious, it's not always practical to take everyone out to eat. We've developed a simple version of the runza, based on a recipe that's been around for generations. This savory meat and cabbage filled dough has extra zing with the addition of pepper-jack cheese!
To make this simple meal that makes 8 Runzas, you'll need just a few basic ingredients:
On a flat surface (a pie board works well), roll out each individual biscuit into a flat oval.
Transfer to your greased baking sheet and fill with 1/4 cup of the meat mixture and cheese. Fold up and pinch the edges.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 17 minutes or golden brown.
When baked, serve with ketchup, just like a real runza!
This video shows you step-by-step how to roll out and wrap the dough pockets:
This simple meal takes just a few ingredients and 30 minutes to make.
