We love a good nature show. But not everything is produced with the family in mind. We settled in to check out Disneynature's MONKEY KINGDOM, a spectacular tale set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. It follows a clever monkey mom Maya, who moves from the lowest ranks of the "kingdom" to a place of power, bringing her tiny newborn monkey son along for the ride.
What can families expect from this film, set to hit Digital HD, Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) & Blu-ray Combo Pack on September 15? Here are the highlights our own family discovered:
1. The scenery was breathtaking! A part of the world we have only read about, the monkey's habitat is a mixture of ancient ruins and modern, bustling city. It's so neat to watch a place you'll probably never see in person like that.
2. The monkeys are so much like us! From teasing and playing, to the intense love they have with their offspring, it's really inspiring to see them showing affection and carefully devote their day to their survival.
3. They are so naughty! The scenes with the monkeys invading the city are the best! We giggled and giggled. Even my husband had a few tears from his eyes when a certain group of monkeys ruined a birthday cake!
4. There is a lesson to be learned. Was the message a bit overly simplistic in it's "rise to power" and "overcoming the odds" narration? Yes. But it was truthful. It's always a good reminder that circumstances can change for any one of us, at any time. Making the best of it is crucial for survival -- whether you live in the wild or not.
