Baby It's Warm Outside: Tips for Allergy-Free Fun with Baby

Spring is here! I'm so super-excited, especially since I am now able to take my very rambunctious toddler outside for a few hours each day. There is nothing better, as he gets to run, work out all of his little energies, and sleep very well each night.

While it's really good for his development (and my sanity) that Manny gets outside for a bit each day, there is another issue to consider for families who live here in Nebraska (and in other states with a high pollen count): allergies.

Allergies are such a burden to the members of my family, that we have a very strict "take it off when you get inside" policy. Anything that may have been exposed to the mold spores, pollen and dust that's in our spring air has to be stripped off when getting inside for the night. Kids shower each early evening and get new clothes -- no exceptions. The dog gets bathed more frequently. The carpets are vacuumed daily.

All of this extra work can be tiring, but it's so important to keep things as allergen-free as possible. I have little ones that not only get sniffly when the allergies are activated, but they can get dry and itchy skin, too!  That's why we have been happy to use our favorite Dreft products in the laundry for things like towels and underwear, since they come in close contact with the delicate skin of our toddler and other family members.

Dreft does an amazing job of cleaning. It's hypoallergenic, and smells awesome, too! In fact, we have been in love with the Dreft Blissfuls In-Wash Scent Booster that gives all of the laundry an amazing scent without aggravating eczema or causing the issues that some scented laundry products can cause.  My daughter (who is 17) just started using the booster on her clothes, too. She says she loves the way her clothes smell now!

Dreft is the No. 1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians to be gentle and hypoallergenic on baby's skin, and it has been trusted for over 80 years. While just one way to keep your family happy and healthy during spring allergy season, it's also one of the easiest!

What are other ways you can protect baby's skin this season? Here are some tips from Dr. Dyan Hes:

Choose the right fabrics and care for them properly: Baby's fabrics are important! Protect baby by seeking out gentle and hypoallergenic items and care for those wardrobe pieces so they last a long time and don't irritate baby. Wash baby's items with a specially-formulated product such as Dreft, the #1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians.

Protect Problem Skin: Don't let heat aggravate eczema. As the weather warms up, be sure to avoid the strongest sun of the day (usually between the hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) by shielding baby from direct sun exposure during those times. There are also apps available that can inform you of the hottest part of the day; use them to keep baby safe and comfy!
