Whether you want to can a bunch of your garden tomatoes, or simply need some raw tomatoes without skin, this method of removing tomato skins is super simple and effective!
Begin by washing your tomatoes of any dirt or debris. Set them aside.
Start a big pot of boiling water (make sure the pot is NOT aluminum). Once at a full boil, slowly add in 3-4 tomatoes.
Each tomato should be in the water no longer than 60 seconds. Depending on the type of tomato, they could be done in as little as 30 seconds.
When the skin splits open a crack, remove the tomatoes right away. Place in a bucket of cold water (I also like to fill up the side of my kitchen sink with water and ice cubes.) When all the tomatos are done being put in boiling water, start peeling them!
You'll have the best luck by starting at the "crack" and pulling off big pieces of skin. Leave the skin around the stem (you'll cut this part off later.)
This method is easy and perfect for getting tomatoes ready for canning, sauce-making, and salsa making!
