Gigamic Smart Games Review: Gloobz and Panic Lab

Gigamic Games provided us with two games to review. Opinions are our own.

Our favorite of the two smart games we reviewed is Gloobz. I was immediately impressed by the qualify of the game pieces. The little rubber animals and the paint cans were especially create and fun! This game was more appropriate for my younger kids, and it didn't take long to figure out the game play and start right in. It's a fast-paced game, but one that rewards memory and critical thinking (which we value very highly in our homeschool.) Kids ages 6 and up can do very well with it, but I think a bright 5-year-old would do fine, as well.

How is it played? Flip a card after calling out "More Gloobz" or "Less Gloobz". Then every tries to get the right pieces first. It's a crazy time because everyone is reaching at once! Watch out for rule changes, however; the magnifying glass and "mega" gloobz make everything topsy-turvy and extra exciting! My boys LOVE this game. It takes about 20 minutes to play a full game.

The second game we were able to review is Panic Lab. It takes a bit more to get started, but once you do, it's pretty crazy fun. There are a lot of variations to the tame pieces, so -- if you aren't paying close -- attention, you will not win. It's for ages 8 and up, but we liked playing it with kids that were around 10 and up, just to have it be a bit more fast-paced.

How does it work? The little creatures (Amoebas) have gotten out of the lab, and you have no idea what you are looking for at first. Use the dice to tell you what they look like and where they got lose. As the game goes on, they can mutate, and then you get all mixed up if you are not paying attention. Catch your amoeba before the other players do, and you win! This is a quick game taking no more than 30 minutes (but usually around 15). It's great for quick game time.

You can purchase these fun brain games at Amazon (here for Gloobz and here for Panic Lab.) They would make excellent holiday gifts (and Panic Lab is perfect for a stocking stuffer.)
