The first time I had a tamale was 2 years ago. Someone in our community had made some for a gift, and I couldn't believe I had missed out on 35 years of this amazing food! Since then, I've tried several brands of frozen and refrigerated talames, but none were as unique and high-quality as the Tuscon Tamales I was sent to try!
My whole family sat down to a meal, sampling all of the flavors. I certainly had my favorites, but all of them were quite tasty. There were some pretty amazing flavor combos:
The Blue Corn, Veggie, and Cheese Tamale (my personal favorite) was full of amazing vegetables. Things I would not have thought to put into a tamale just seemed to fit!
We also tried a pumpkin tamale -- my first -- which was sweet, but not too sweet. It was like a pumpkin pie without a lot of sugar.
Preparing them was so simple. Each frozen package came with instructions for how to warm in the microwave. I was worried that cooking them that way would dry them out, but it didn't. The corn husk kept all the moisture in, and the veggies, cheeses, and other fillings just tasted fresh! I would definitely serve these to my family again.
